I usually use the money I earn from Facebook to buy food for charity programs, but this year I have decided to focus on something different. We want to do a campaign against drug abuse, violence and crime.

Earlier this year, I visited Chinhoyi and heard many worrying stories about drug abuse and the rising crime rate in the community. When I was growing up in Chinhoyi, I could walk freely at night from one location to another without fear. But this time it was different.I was warned to make sure I was home before 7 PM.

One evening when I went out , I received several calls from family members asking me to come back home.It made me realize that fear has taken over the streets.People are talking about murders and robberies happening in the town.It is no longer the Chinhoyi that I once trusted and loved.

When I looked closely at these changes in our town it became clear to me that drug abuse and unemployment are major causes of these problems. When drugs enter a community, unemployed young people are often the most vulnerable and easily drawn into them.

After discussing this with my family, we decided that instead of donating food parcels this year we should invest in educating the community about the dangers of drugs, violence and crime.

I am therefore raising $250-$300 to support this community project, which I hope to complete before December. So far, I have managed to raise $40 USD through my Facebook monetization.

I would like to invite every resident of Chinhoyi who is willing to be part of this community program to contact me.If you are able to donate any amount toward this project, your support will be greatly appreciated.

For this campaign we plan to work with local musicians and a local music producer from Chinhoyi. Our goal is to use familiar faces from the community to spread awareness and encourage positive change.

I have spoken to a music producer who gave me a quotation and assured me that this project is something they can do.

Together, we can make a difference and help bring back the safe and peaceful Chinhoyi we all remember.

What guidance would you offer to a parent whose child has recently completed and passed O Level?

In your view, is it essential for the child to spend an additional two years pursuing A Levels in order to meet the entry requirements of Zimbabwean universities, or is it equally viable for them to enroll in a four-year undergraduate degree programme in Zambia or another country, and later pursue a Master’s degree abroad?

This is an open and constructive discussion.Let us share our perspectives respectfully as parents.

Community Safety Alert | Chinhoyi Residents

The recent arrest of a serial offender in Guruve is a stark reminder that crime can affect any community. In that case, several families were traumatised before law enforcement agencies successfully intervened and arrested the suspect. While investigations are ongoing, the incident exposed serious gaps in community awareness and early reporting.

What happened in Guruve can happen anywhere including here in Chinhoyi. We can no longer assume that our neighbourhoods are automatically safe. This moment calls for unity, vigilance and proactive community engagement.

As residents of Chinhoyi,it is important that we share ideas and discuss possible strategies that may help protect one another and improve preparedness should any security threat arise.

Key Question
What can we do together as a community to improve our safety?

Community Safety Ideas for Discussion

1. Responsible Use of Technology

Technology can be used to share verified information quickly and responsibly especially when suspicious activity is observed.Timely communication may help prevent harm.

2. Community WhatsApp Groups

Each neighbourhood or location could consider having a dedicated WhatsApp group.

Such groups may be used strictly for security alerts and essential community updates, rather than advertising services or products .

A wider Chinhoyi residents’ group could help coordinate information across different areas.

3. Involvement of Councillors

The participation of local councillors in these platforms may improve coordination, accountability and faster engagement with relevant authorities when concerns are raised.

4. Community Communication Tools

If resources allow, community walkie-talkie radios could be explored as an additional way to strengthen communication during emergencies, power outages or network disruptions.

5. Responsible Tenant Management

Property owners may consider ensuring that written rental agreements are in place.

Keeping records of tenants’ identification, contact details and next-of-kin information can contribute to accountability and safety.

6. Physical Security Measures

Residents who are able to do so might consider improving basic home security such as boundary walls, secure gates,Solar powered CCTV Cameras and adequate lighting.

7. Protection of Personal Information

Community members are encouraged to avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information unnecessarily, whether with landlords, tenants or neighbours.

8. Anonymous Community Reporting Facilities

The idea of installing secure information boxes in clinics, council offices and other safe public places could be explored in collaboration with the police and local authorities. These boxes would allow residents to report suspicious behaviour anonymously particularly for those who may fear victimisation or retaliation.

Anonymous reporting can encourage early reporting and strengthen community trust.

Closing Message

Community safety is a shared responsibility.
By remaining alert, communicating respectfully and exchanging ideas openly,we can reduce risks and better protect our families.

Let us continue this discussion constructively and share additional views on how we can make Chinhoyi a safer place for everyone.

If you see something suspicious, speak up.Silence empowers criminals unity protects communities.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Chinhoyi Schools And Education Community

Dear Residents of Chinhoyi,

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Chinhoyi Schools and Education Community Group, a platform dedicated to sharing information about pre-schools, primary schools, high schools and universities within Chinhoyi.

The purpose of this group is to facilitate easy access to news and information for parents, teachers, students and all community members. By using this platform we can reduce the need to physically visit school offices while still obtaining the same reliable information directly from official sources.

We encourage all members of our community to actively participate by sharing verified information, updates and announcements.

Let us harness the power of technology and social media to stay informed, support our schools and ensure that students and families receive timely and accurate educational information.

Some parents live outside Zimbabwe and may need to relocate their children to study in Chinhoyi.Sharing information on this platform will help those who are unable to visit school offices in person.

If you sell textbooks, school stationery or uniforms, this platform is also an excellent way to connect with schools, students and parents.

Together, we can make education in Chinhoyi more accessible and strengthen connections within our community.

Thank you for your cooperation and active participation.

HAPPY NEW YEAR CHINHOYI

As a new year begins, let us remember that a community grows not only through plans and projects, but through the character of its people.Wisdom teaches us that progress starts with how we think, how we speak and how we treat one another.

Let us choose patience over anger, truth over rumor and unity over division. Before we speak or act,let us ask whether our words build or destroy.A strong community is shaped by citizens who value responsibility, respect and cooperation.

May we understand that small consistent efforts keeping our surroundings clean, supporting local initiatives and helping one another create lasting change. When individuals act with purpose the whole community moves forward.

As we walk into this new year, let us carry wisdom in our decisions, humility in our conversations and hope in our shared future.

A wise community is a strong community.Together, let us build Chinhoyi.

We are now 45 days away from Christmas Day.

We know during this time many of us are busy planning for next year’s school fees and this year’s holiday trips. We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce our donation programme which we carried out last year in Chinhoyi.

Last year we managed to collect some groceries which we donated to Chengetanai Old People’s Home Centre.

In this programme, we do not limit the type of donations. You may donate fruits, vegetables, clothes, electrical items, beverages, money, shoes or anything you believe can help support the elderly.

Last year, we used a temporary WhatsApp group to organise the donations but this year we will use a private Facebook group that will not be deleted. The group will remain active so more people can join, and we can continue using it every year during donation time.

We will open the Facebook group and share the link here for anyone who would like to join and begin preparing for this year’s donation programme.

Distance is not a barrier. We will have volunteers on the ground who will receive donations and payments.
They will purchase the groceries and deliver them on the 23-24th of December 2025.

This programme is not only for Chinhoyi residents. It is open to anyone who is willing to support and uplift the spirits of our elderly people living at Chengetanai Old People’s Home Centre.

The link to the Facebook group will be available in the comments section.

We will also share updates on our community development forum page:

Chinhoyi is adding more and more stands, but where’s the plan for clean water and sewer lines?🤔

We already have a shortage of drinking water and some areas don’t even have sewer connections.Imagine the health risks when people start digging wells and septic tanks on tiny 300m² stands!

The town isn’t growing, industry isn’t developing, water sources aren’t being upgraded but stands and residents keep increasing.Something is seriously wrong here.🚨
