TSURO About TSURO

The acronym TSURO stands for Towards Sustainable Use of Resources Organisation. The organisation uses a bottom-up approach in all its operations.

TSURO is a membership driven NGO based in 6 districts in Zimbabwe working to empower smallholder farmers in Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Public Environmental Health as well as Economic Strengthening. We are a community-based organisation in Chimanimani Zimbabwe that focuses on empowering rural communities to engage in sustainable and profitable agriculture based on pro

per natural resource management. TSURO is a private voluntary organisation registered as a Trust under Deed of Trust with the Registrar of Deeds in Harare, Zimbabwe. It was founded to support community-level efforts directed at sustainable development. The organisation has its roots within associations of smallholder farmers established in 2000. In these associations, members form village groups and these affiliate at ward level and then further at district level. TSURO encourages people to use locally available resources, thus making many of the supported development activities affordable and sustainable. Currently TSURO is operating in 21 out of the 23 wards of Chimanimani district and has four major areas of intervention, which are Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Community Health, Community-based Agro-processing, and Marketing, and Community Capacity Development. TSURO employs an evidence-based approach in which the four departments work in an integrated and holistic way. Vision Statement

TSURO aims at empowering the communities of Chimanimani and neighbouring districts to improve their livelihoods and relationships through programmes in the areas of sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and community health, agro-processing and marketing. In this effort, the TSURO Trust and the TSURO dzeChimanimani Association work with traditional leaders and all stakeholders who share the aim of alleviating poverty and reducing dependency of rural people. The goal of TSURO TRUST is to have self-sustaining, self-driven, food secure and healthy communities throughout TSUROโ€™s operational districts in Zimbabwe.

๐Ÿซ•๐Ÿ› T๐ซa๐i๐ญi๐จn๐šl and n๐ฎt๐ซi๐ญi๐จn๐šl c๐จo๐คi๐งg d๐žm๐จn๐ฌt๐ซa๐ญi๐จn๐ฌ highlighted the importance of consuming healthy non-GMO foods and balanced diets such as the Four Star Diet.
๐Ÿงบ ๐„x๐กi๐›i๐ญi๐จn๐ฌ and ๐žd๐ฎc๐št๐ขo๐งa๐ฅ ๐ญo๐ฎr๐ฌ allowed communities to learn practical skills in agroecology, food preservation, packaging, hygiene and sustainable agriculture.

The festival was also filled with vibrant edutainment activities including poetry, traditional dances, educational drama, church performances, agroecology songs, interactive entertainment that promoted culture, unity and community learning.

In 2023, the Nature+ project had just begun in central Chimanimani in the Zimbabwe Eastern Highlands. Villagers across seven communities welcomed TSURO Trust into their homes and shared their histories, their struggles and their hopes.

They spoke about how they had settled in the area, how the landscape had changed over the years, and how they made a living from farming and natural resources. They also shared their aspirations for what Nature+ could bring to their communities.

Stakeholders from across M๐šn๐ขc๐šl๐šn๐ convened at M๐šn๐ขc๐š ๐’k๐ฒv๐ขe๐ฐ ๐‡o๐ญe๐ฅ in Mutare for a high level dialogue focused on strengthening c๐ฅi๐ฆa๐ญe r๐žs๐ขl๐ขe๐งc๐ž, a๐ r๐จe๐œo๐ฅo๐ y and ๐ o๐ฏe๐ซn๐šn๐œe o๐Ÿ ๐œo๐ฆm๐จn p๐จo๐ฅ ๐ซe๐ฌo๐ฎr๐œe๐ฌ. The session brought together key provincial and district actors including government ministries, traditional leadership, technical departments, development partners, farmers and youths supported by ๐—ง๐—ฆ๐—จ๐—ฅ๐—ข ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜.

Participants included representatives from Agritex, Environmental Management Agency, ๐—ญ๐—œ๐—ก๐—ช๐—”, Zimbabwe Republic Police, ๐— ๐—ผ๐—›๐—–๐—–, Zimparks, the Office of the President and Cabinet, as well as Chimanimani district structures and ๐‚h๐ขe๐Ÿ ๐Œu๐ญa๐ฆb๐šr๐š. The platform also amplified community voices through the participation of farmers and youth from multiple wards.

A key highlight was the presentation by ๐ƒr C M๐ฎj๐šj๐ฎ, who emphasized that the impacts of C๐ฒc๐ฅo๐งe I๐a๐ข exposed systemic vulnerabilities while also revealing pathways to resilience through agroecology, strengthened governance and community based seed systems.
