The Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust proudly joined this year’s National Culture Month Celebrations at Barbourfields Stadium on the 21st of May, participating as exhibitors under the banner of the Joshua Nkomo Peace Marathon, an initiative being undertaken in partnership with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
The celebrations brought together people from different communities, organisations and cultural backgrounds in a vibrant showcase of Zimbabwean heritage, identity and unity. For the Trust, the occasion was more than just a cultural gathering. It was an opportunity to celebrate the values that Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo stood for peace, unity, tolerance and nation building.
At the exhibition stand, the Trust showcased the vision behind the Joshua Nkomo Peace Marathon and its growing impact as a platform that uses sport and culture to unite communities, empower young people and encourage social development. Visitors to the stand had the opportunity to learn more about the initiative and its broader objectives of promoting peace and preserving the legacy of Father Zimbabwe through meaningful community engagement.
The exhibition attracted wide interest throughout the day from members of the public, community leaders, stakeholders and various organisations attending the event. The atmosphere at Barbourfields Stadium reflected the true spirit of National Culture Month, where culture became a meeting point for unity, dialogue and national pride.
The Trust was also honoured to receive several distinguished guests at the exhibition stand, including His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. Chief Mbusi Dakamela, officials from Highlanders Football Club and many other notable guests also visited the stand and interacted with representatives of the Trust during the celebrations.
The successful participation at the National Culture Month Celebrations comes at a time when preparations are already underway for the 2nd Edition of the Joshua Nkomo Peace Marathon scheduled for 2027. The marathon continues to grow beyond being simply a sporting event, evolving into a national movement that promotes peace, unity, health, youth participation and cultural appreciation while honouring the enduring legacy of Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo.
Through initiatives such as the Joshua Nkomo Peace Marathon, the Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust continues to build platforms that bring people together, strengthen communities and inspire future generations to embrace the values of unity and nationhood that remain central to Zimbabwe’s identity.
