FACHIG Trust participated in a Biomonitoring training under the Holistic Land and Livestock Management programme at MusoroMuchena Skills for Life in Makonde, held on 14–15 April.

This training strengthened participants’ understanding of how biodiversity (plants, insects, and microorganisms ) can be used to assess ecosystem health and inform smarter land use. It also included practical sessions on mapping and planned grazing, with a strong focus on biodiversity protection and climate resilience.

Participants gained practical skills through hands-on learning, guided demonstrations, and discussions on how to integrate biomonitoring in the community.
The two representatives from FACHIG will share the knowledge and lessons gained back to their respective communities through community training and follow-up sessions.

FACHIG Trust extends sincere appreciation to PELUM Zimbabwe and partner organizations for facilitating this impactful training.

FACHIG Trust participated in a Learning Exchange hosted by Trust in Victoria Falls/Hwange from 24–25 February.

The exchange reflected on the impact of HLLM in communities where implementation has been ongoing and explored Participatory Action Research (PAR) in newly engaged communities focusing on seed systems and documentation of their work.

FACHIG was represented by one officer, an Agritex Extension Officer, and a Lead Farmer who will cascade the knowledge and lessons gained back to their respective communities.

IGugu Trust farmers demonstrated strong interest in agroecological practices, particularly the adoption of bio-fertilisers and Bokashi in their fields following a training conducted under Zimbabwe

FACHIG Trust extends sincere appreciation to PELUM Zimbabwe for this opportunity and looks forward to implementing and strengthening the practices and insights gained through this exchange.

PSAMY Project Give back:Building Local capacity in Seed Conservation and Farming

Participants of the PSAMY Project are returning the technical skills and approaches acquired in Kenya to their home communities. The initiative commenced with a meeting with AGRITEX officers and continues with project members collaborating closely with local farmers to share practical skills and practices. Implementation is progressing steadily as activities roll out across multiple wards in Manhenga, Bindura District, strengthening local capacity in seed conservation and advancing sustainable farming systems.

🌏Looking Ahead | From Local Change to Global Inspiration

The Project’s experience in Zimbabwe offers valuable lessons for policymakers, donors, and practitioners across Africa. It demonstrates that sustainable agriculture cannot thrive without investing in youth — not only as participants but as co-designers of the solutions.

🌱 Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Marketing through Youth involvement (PSAMY)🌱

This week, our amazing participants worked alongside farmers to demonstrate how to build conical garden- a simple, sustainable, and space-saving way to grow nutritious food.

✨ Benefits of a Conical Garden:
- Maximizes small spaces with layered planting
- Improves soil fertility and water retention
- Makes food production more resilient during droughts
- Provides households with a steady supply of vegetables

We are grateful to our dedicated farmers for their participation. Together, we are promoting long-term food security. 🌍💚

🌱 2025 National Seed & Food Festival 🌱

The 2-day National Seed and Food Festival at Harare Botanical Garden was a wonderful celebration of biodiversity, food systems, and heritage. With so many unique varieties of seeds on display, the event highlighted the importance of safeguarding our traditions while building resilient futures.

🌿 Strengthening Agroecological Practice Through Knowledge Sharing
Earlier FACHIG Trust participated in a four-day training on soil health and bio-fertilizer production, hosted by TSURO Trust and made possible through the support of PELUM Zimbabwe.
🧪 This training focused on practical, farmer-friendly approaches to improving soil fertility and resilience—a key component of agroecological transformation. Sessions included hands-on demonstrations, knowledge exchanges, and peer learning on local bio-fertilizer solutions.
We were honored to learn alongside fellow PELUM Zimbabwe network members, including:
• ZIMSOFF
• PORET Trust
• Musoro Muchena Skills for Life
• Zivakwakabva Trust
• Muonde Trust
• CELUO
• SCOPE Zimbabwe
🌱 These collaborative efforts not only enhanced our technical capacity, but also deepened our shared commitment to building healthy soils, sustainable food systems, and climate-resilient livelihoods in Zimbabwe.
We extend our gratitude to the facilitators, organizers, and everyone for their contributions and spirit of solidarity.
