ARTUZ BULAWAYO PROVINCE, is fully against the Constitutional Amendment Bill no:3 (CAB3). having been let down by the current presidency that has viewed teachers as a useless part of government and therefore paying teachers peanuts, no one in their right minds can accept such an administration to continue in office. Acceptance of such malicious bills is a clear betrayal of the people of Zimbabwe who fought hard for independence which was never brought to the ordinary Zimbabwean Citizen. We can't give two more years to failure that has left the ordinary Zimbabwean suffering even more as compared to the times of the stone age, coloniasm and Black colonized Zimbabwe during the first republic Era. We want to make it clear that the newspapers and government mouthpieces do not run Zimbabwe. Our welfare remains of great priority and no one else is above the welfare of the citizens of Zimbabwe and the values of the Liberation Struggle which almost every Zimbabwean or their fore fathers fought for. Give us a referendum and see what we want.

Dark Day for hundreds of thousands of Government of Zimbabwe workers as only a few banks credited the so called presidential bonuses into accounts. The rest are left in dispair and even if it's paid by tomorrow 31 December, most will only access an average of $60 as bank charges of around $5USD will have kicked in and then the banks will be giving multiples of 10 for withdrawals. Here is the math: $75 president minus $5 monthly bank charges = $70. to withdraw, there is around $3 bank Charges leaving one with $67. now $67 is not a multiple of 10 meaning that one will get $60. The government is pathetic and cruel to civil servants.

30/12/2025

follow up to our yesterday communication, only a few banks have credited the "presidential" balance to Civil servants accounts. so some do not deserve the money on time? timed to have end of month bank charges by tomorrow? Government doesn't care. Those who have received today will face ATMS that demand multiples of 10 by tomorrow after taking bank charges. Government of Zimbabwe has failed it's workers once again. all banks should show the money now.

29/12/2025

Government of Zimbabwe having promised to pay the President's debt to Civil servants by the 30th of December 2025, should now honour the promise on time. By tomorrow, every civil servant should have received that money which is a mere USD$75 and cannot compare to a single Ford raptor given to comedians by the state. After all that money was said to be for use during the festive period which ends on 1 January 2026 which is a holiday.

Remembering Cde Mackswell Basiyavo: A Man Full of Love, Tormented by Evil.

By Obert Masaraure and Olivia Charumbira

07 December 2025

At one point, we begged Cde Marx to transfer from Mashonaland Central to a less hostile province. His response was sobering: " I am a Communist; it is my role to change society. If I chicken out, who is going to do the job? Mash Central is my home, and I will never desert my people.”

Mackswell Basiyavo was an uncompromising, relentless fighter.

We held this conversation soon after a court proceeding where he was framed for abusing his child. We were deeply worried for his safety. The accusation was that he had not provided the child with enough food, and a neighbor, who was also a ZANU PF supporter, had reported him to the police. The child was placed in the custody of the Social Welfare Department, and Basiyavo was dragged to court.

The trial, however, only served to prove how loving Basiyavo was, both as a parent and a neighbor.

It was inspiring to hear how he juggled being a teacher, a single parent, and a political fighter. He was ultimately cleared by the courts of any wrongdoing.

The child abuse case was not the only battle he faced because of his deep love for his people and his nation.

On April 4, 2019, Cde Basiyavo, who also served as the Chairperson of the Guruve Residents Association (GRA), was abducted and severely tortured; his dreadlocks were forcibly cut. Through the GRA, Basiyavo had exposed massive corruption at the Guruve local authority.

Local security officials connived to silence him by any means necessary. Cde Max emerged from this ordeal with a declaration to fight on.

Basiyavo, a reputable science teacher, was known for achieving excellent results and for the strong bond he shared with learners who adored him for his excellence and hard work. At one point, school authorities chose to frame him with charges of abusing minors. Learners were coerced into writing letters alleging improper association with Cde Max.

Over a dozen learners wrote the same allegations against Mr. Basiyavo. The subsequent disciplinary hearing proved hilarious when the learners disowned the allegations and exonerated Basiyavo.

School authorities never felt comfortable working with Cde Marx—the nickname he earned for his political leanings—because he challenged authority whenever he detected corruption, mismanagement, or incompetence.

Zimbabwean leaders at all levels are not accustomed to being challenged; they often respond with brute force. At ARTUZ (Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe), we, however, enjoyed the robust debates Cde Basiyavo would always trigger with his well-reasoned arguments. Our Union’s culture of debate was partly nurtured by Marx.

Cde Marx, a former police officer, was the founding Legal and Security Secretary of ARTUZ. Many a time, he offered to provide the Union President with security at Union gatherings—an offer the President always declined, given our conviction that we are one big family that can collectively take care of each other.

Marx graduated from Hillside Teachers College with a Teaching Diploma. The President first met him in Silobela, where he was stationed at Sibangani Secondary School and Basiyavo was at Malisa Secondary School. We were later to learn that he had been at Hillside together with Secretary General Robson Chere, Cde Masiiwa, Cde Wachipa, and Cde Nkiwane, among others.

The transition from student activism to Trade Unionism was easier for him than most of us. He had read Marxist literature and was very conversant with the role of the Trade Union movement in transforming society. We enjoyed learning from him.

At the workplace, he was suspended three times according to the records we have, and expelled once. The persecution was directly linked to his legitimate Trade Union work. He successfully challenged his expulsion and was reinstated on November 10, 2025.

Unfortunately, he was struck by a mysterious illness on November 24. He fell unconscious and never lived to tell his story. He was holding his assumption of duty forms. The health system failed him as he lay unconscious for days without any clear diagnosis. We will never know what exactly happened to him, but we will always remember that he was a man full of love who was tormented by the evil members of our society.

Doctors advised of brain damage, and our Cde had visible head injuries which may have led to him falling unconscious. We will never know how he sustained the injury. Kidney failure later kicked in, and he had zero sugar according to the report from experts.

Mackswell Basiyavo entered the world on September 15, 1975, and exited on December 6, 2025. Fifty years well lived. A half-century dedicated to fighting exploitation.

Rest in Peace Cde Marx.

We will carry on the fight!

*A Tribute to a Fallen Comrade: Cde Marx (Maxwell Basiyawo)*

By Cde Robson Nikita Chere
National Secretary General
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ)

Today, we gather to bid farewell to a fearless warrior, a devoted comrade, and a dear friend, Cde Marx. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life, his work, and his unwavering commitment to the struggle for justice and equality.

I recall the day we met, January 2006, on a train to Bulawayo, en route to Hillside Teachers College. Little did I know that this chance encounter would blossom into a lifelong friendship and comradeship. We were not only college mates, but also classmates, sharing the same academic journey for three years, along with our brother Tawanda Wachipa, in the Sciences programme. I had the honor of serving as the Student Representative Council President of Hillside Teachers College, and Cde Marx was one of my key advisors, a trusted ally in the fight for student rights and social justice.

After college, our paths diverged, but our commitment to the struggle remained steadfast. It was during this time that I had an engagement with Comrade Obert Masaraure, discussing the idea of forming a radical left teachers' organization to represent rural education and the welfare of teachers and learners. I shared this idea with a lot of my former college mates including Cde Marx, and he was one of the first cdes to join us on this journey, along with other like-minded comrades. He was part of the founding members of ARTUZ, attending our first planning meeting at Number 69 Bard House, S Machel Avenue, and later serving as the Secretary for Legal Affairs at our first congress at Arcturus High School.

Cde Marx was more than just a colleague; he was a brother, a confidant, and a fellow soldier in the fight for a better future. His dedication to the cause was unwavering, even in the face of brutal persecution, abduction, and torture. His life is a testament to the power of courage and conviction.

As we lay him to rest, we do so with a sense of pride and admiration for his unwavering commitment to the struggle. We will continue to draw inspiration from his life, his work, and his sacrifice.

To our fallen comrade, I say: Soldiers never die, they rest. And as you rest, may you Rest in Power, Cde Marx. Your legacy lives on in our hearts, our actions, and our continued fight for justice.

*A luta continua!* The struggle continues!

*Viva ARTUZ! Viva!*

*Rest in Power, Cde Marx!*

unit zimbabwe and has dispersed innocent Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union in Zimbabwe teachers from holding a peaceful sporting event at Chaplin High School Gweru, in celebration and commemoration of the teaching year of 2025. Teachers who are wallowing in poverty, had their union organizing a sporting event for them to refresh whilst enjoying their little bonus that cannot even afford a small domestic tourism trip to the likes of Victoria falls. This happened just as the teachers where just concluding the Gender Based Violence Campaign and awareness which as teachers believe that is a service to the nation because teachers are just teachers who must teach everything including the worldwide problem of Gender Based Violence which has claimed countless innocent lives including those of children who are of school going age. with teachers preparing for ZIMSEC exams marking with fresh minds, this action is in clear retrogation of the NDSG1 and NDSG2, which are supposed to help the Nation. We are surprised that when other Unions hold such events, no disruption is done whereas the government preaches leaving no place and no one behind, but are clearly leaving innocent ARTUZ teachers behind.
