*🦟 World Mosquito Day | 20 August*

On this day in *1897*, British doctor *Sir Ronald Ross* made a discovery that changed public health forever.

In a small lab in Secunderabad, India, he identified malaria parasites inside a female _Anopheles_ mosquito.
For the first time, we had proof: *mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans*.

That single finding earned Ross the *Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1902* and laid the foundation for how we fight mosquito-borne diseases today.

*Why it still matters in 2026:*
Mosquitoes remain the deadliest animal to humans. They still transmit malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and more — impacting millions every year, especially in low-resource communities.

World Mosquito Day isn’t about the insect. It’s about:
1. *Awareness* - Knowing the risk and symptoms early
2. *Prevention* - Bed nets, repellents, draining standing water, community action
3. *Equity* - Ensuring access to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention for all

At CWR, we see this every day in the communities we work with. Health, environment, and livelihoods are connected. When we tackle waste, water, and awareness together, we reduce risk.
