Two suspected motorbike thieves have been burnt to death by a mob in Sukwa Village, located approximately 20 kilometers south of Nakonde Central Business District (CBD), along the Nakonde-Mbala road in Nakonde District.
The two male individuals, both of apparent middle age, were killed around 10:00 hours after being apprehended by angry members of the public.
Their identities remain officially unknown as of this report, although sources claim at least one of them has since been recognized by locals as being from Katozi area.
According to eyewitness accounts gathered by Chete FM News, the incident began when a commercial motorbike rider operating from one of the ranks within Nakonde CBD was booked by the two suspects in the morning.
The duo initially told the rider that they were heading to Ilola, a village neighboring Sukwa.
Upon reaching Ilola, the men allegedly changed their destination, requesting the rider to take them further to another nearby village known as Nakakola.
It was along this route that the incident took another turn.
The rider was reportedly instructed to stop, with the suspects claiming they had reached their final stop.
They then informed the rider that they did not have any physical cash on them and requested to pay the fare via mobile money transfer.
However, while the purportedly process of the transaction, one of the men is said to have hit therider from behind, knocking him to the ground.
The suspects then immediately sped off with the motorbike.
Fortunately, a fellow motorbike rider happened to be approaching from the opposite direction at the time of the incident.
