RDAZ North-Western Chapter at the 2026 Scientific Conference & AGM – Siavonga

The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) – North-Western Chapter was proud to be part of the 2026 Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Siavonga.

The meeting provided a platform for insightful discussions on advancing healthcare delivery, strengthening the medical workforce, and fostering innovation within our health system. Key conversations centered around improving working conditions for doctors, enhancing training and career progression, and building a more resilient healthcare system for Zambia.

In attendance was Dr Simapuka and Dr Chiabi, who actively participated in these important engagements and contributed to shaping the way forward for our profession.

As RDAZ North-Western, we remain committed to implementing the knowledge gained and continuing to advocate for better healthcare services and improved welfare for doctors in our province.

Together, we continue to build a stronger health system. 🇿🇲

RDAZ North-Western Chapter Engagement with the Hon. Minister of Health

The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) – North-Western Chapter had the privilege of meeting with the Hon. Minister of Health.

We are pleased to share that the meeting was highly productive, and the Hon. Minister expressed his appreciation for the work being done by doctors in the province. He reaffirmed his willingness to work closely with RDAZ to improve the working conditions and welfare of medical doctors.

The Minister assured us that:
• He will look into employment opportunities for doctors, particularly those who have been voluntarily offering services to the public, and ensure their contributions are recognized.
• He will address concerns regarding doctors serving in administrative roles without corresponding promotions.

The Hon. Minister says he was invited to attend the RDAZ 2026 Scientific Conference & AGM in Siavonga, under the theme:
“Building a Brighter Future: Advancing Science, Innovation, and Workforce Strengthening for a Resilient Health System in Zambia.”
He expressed his appreciation for the invitation and indicated that he will do his utmost to attend despite his demanding schedule.

This engagement marks a positive step towards stronger collaboration between RDAZ and the Ministry of Health as we work together to strengthen healthcare delivery in Zambia.

Together, we move forward. 🇿🇲

Yesterday, the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) – North-Western Chapter, in collaboration with Solwezi General Hospital, conducted a community health outreach aimed at bringing essential healthcare services closer to the people.

This initiative reflects our continued commitment to serving beyond hospital walls and ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to accessing quality healthcare.

From consultations to health education, our team was on the ground engaging with the community, addressing health concerns, and promoting wellness.

MEET ZAMBIA’S NEW MINISTER OF HEALTH – DR ALEX KATAKWE

Dr Alex Katakwe is a Zambian public servant with a strong background in science, public health, and leadership. From an early age, he developed a passion for education and community service, particularly in understanding diseases and their impact on communities.

He pursued his higher education at the University of Zambia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. His academic interests later led him to specialize in Medical Parasitology, and he went on to earn a Master’s degree in Medical Parasitology from the same institution.

Through his academic training and research, Dr Katakwe developed expertise in parasitic diseases, which remain a significant public health challenge in many parts of Africa, including diseases such as Malaria.

Dr Katakwe later joined active politics and was elected Member of Parliament for Mushindamo Constituency under the United Party for National Development (UPND). In Parliament, he has advocated for improved healthcare services, development, and better living standards for the people of his constituency.

On 13th March 2026, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, appointed Dr Alex Katakwe as Minister of Health.

The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) congratulates Dr Katakwe on his appointment and looks forward to working together to strengthen the health sector and improve healthcare delivery for the people of Zambia.

HAPPY NATIONAL DOCTORS’ DAY

Today we recognize and appreciate the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of doctors across Zambia. Every day, doctors work tirelessly—often behind the scenes, through long hours, difficult conditions, and personal sacrifice—to care for patients and save lives.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Excellence through Collective Impact in Healthcare,” reminds us that the strength of our health system lies in the commitment and collaboration of healthcare professionals who continue to serve with compassion and professionalism.

Although our planned celebrations could not take place as we join our colleagues in mourning and honoring the life of our dear colleague, the spirit of this day remains strong. Today we still pause to acknowledge the incredible work doctors do every day for our communities.

To all doctors across the country—thank you for your service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to patient care.

TRIBUTE FROM THE RESIDENT DOCTORS ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA (RDAZ)

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) mourns the untimely passing of our dear colleague, Dr. Annie Mwale, a Senior Resident in the Orthopedics Department.

Dr. Mwale was not only a dedicated doctor but also a compassionate colleague whose commitment to patient care and service to humanity will always be remembered. Her passion for medicine, humility, and willingness to support others made her a valued member of the medical fraternity.

The loss of Dr. Mwale is a profound one to her family, colleagues, patients, and the entire RDAZ community. As doctors, we share a bond that goes beyond the workplace, and today we stand together in grief while honoring a life that was devoted to healing and service.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Though she is gone too soon, her legacy of dedication, compassion, and service will continue to inspire us.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) – North-Western is honored to be part of this important national event as we continue our commitment to promoting health, empowering young people, and bringing healthcare closer to our communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia for gracing the Youth Day celebrations in the North-Western Province. Your presence highlights the importance of investing in the youth and inspiring them to rise, lead, and shape the future of our nation.
