Earlier today, Solwezi Youth Network (SYN), under Environment Africa, led a successful clean up at Zambia Market, Solwezi District, North Western Province. The activity brought together the Solwezi Municipal Council, SYN, and other key stakeholders to ensure marketeers can trade in a safe, healthy and welcoming environment.

During the clean-up, youths took the opportunity to sensitize marketeers and traders on proper waste management practices and workplace safety. These conversations focused on practical steps to keep their stalls and surroundings clean which measures that protect both the environment and children’s rights in the community.

Solwezi Youth Network remains committed to creating positive, lasting impact in our different communities, building safer public spaces, promoting environmental stewardship and empowering young people to lead change.

A New report about Anglo American's Accountability Deficit'.
The report has Just been launched at the Alternative Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa with Ziyanda from Justice For Miners, Namo Chuma from Environment Africa Zambia, Reginald from Tlou Mogale Foundation, Sabelo from MACUA & WAMUA and Rachel and Tricia from ACTSA.

The Country Director of Environment Africa Mr Namo Chuma made a passionate presentation of the Kabwe Lead pollution story.

Youth participation in dialogue platforms is key to sustainable development. Today, Elizabeth Ngoma, a member of the Solwezi Youth Network, participated in a radio program on waste management in Solwezi. Elizabeth shared that poor waste management is a major driver of climate change, as open dumping and burning release harmful greenhouse gases that damage the environment. She highlighted that young people play a critical role in promoting recycling, leading community clean-ups, and raising awareness especially during Global Action Month, to help build a more resilient and sustainable future.

On the 7th of November, 2024, Environment Africa Zambia conducted an environmental panel discussion which served as a dialogue platform for Children, Youths and Community members. In attendance was the District Commissioner's representative, District Education Board, Forest Department, Solwezi Municipal council, Ward Development Committee representatives, Children and Youths. The District Commissioner's representative Madam Nama Sarah emphasized the vital role everyone plays in protecting children's rights and the environment, urging government officials to take a stand for all children, regardless of their abilities. The panel discussion provided participants with information on what different government departments are doing to ensure environmental protection. The District Education Board representative highlighted the ministry's initiative of incorporating climate change education into school curricula and creation of ecological clubs to ensure that children have access to quality information on their rights and the environment.

On the 5th of November, 2024 Environment Africa Zambia Conducted a young environmental voices television program at North West TV station. The program aimed at raising awareness on children rights and the environment. The TV program provided a platform for young people to make recommendations to the government and other stakeholders involved in the fight against climate change.
The youths called for a multi actor partnerships approach to champion the African environment and ensure that children's rights to a healthy environment are promoted, protected and fulfilled.

On the 1st of November, 2024 Environment Africa Zambia Conducted a Radio program to officially open the Global Action Month which is being held under the theme "Let´s get active and stand with young environmental voices to save the environment! " The radio program was aimed at raising awareness on the impact of poor waste management on the environment and children. The program was led by 4 children from Solwezi Day Secondary school who called onto government, Civil Societies and Communities to work together to promote a healthy and sustainable environment.
