Gender Champions Training of Trainers Strengthens Skills for Inclusive Development

A five‑day Gender Champions Training of Trainers is underway in Lusaka, strengthening participants’ practical skills to drive gender‑transformative and inclusive community development.

The training focuses on:
✅ Gender analysis and transformative approaches
✅ Inclusive facilitation and community engagement
✅ Challenging harmful social norms
✅ Designing and delivering gender‑responsive interventions

We are excited to announce the launch of the 2nd call for the Matching Grant Facility for cooperatives, farmer organizations and individual farmers working with SIFAZ-supported cooperatives and SMEs.

SIFAZ is a EUR 32 million European Union –funded project implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) the Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia and (CIMMYT) supporting smallholder farmers to adopt Sustainable Intensification Practices ( ) including mechanization, improved market linkages and an enabling environment for sustainable growth.

Donor Visit to Mwinilunga: Assessing Sustainability of Interventions

A donor delegation recently visited Mwinilunga District to assess the sustainability of SUNII multisectoral interventions, implemented in collaboration with district ministries and traditional leadership.

Under the guidance of His Royal Highness Chief Kanyama, communities continue to benefit from ‑supported initiatives such as fishpond development and small livestock production. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through the European Union -funded Support Towards the Operationalization of the SADC Regional Agricultural Policy – Phase II ( II) project, convened a strategic coordination and implementation review meeting with key Government stakeholders.

✅The engagement brought together sectoral Directors and technical focal points to assess implementation progress, strengthen coordination mechanisms, identify emerging operational challenges and prioritize actions required to accelerate delivery of project results.

✅Implemented in partnership with , II is supporting Member States to advance more productive, climate-resilient, inclusive and sustainable agriculture and food systems across the region. The meeting reinforced the importance of integrated planning, cross-sector collaboration and strengthened institutional coordination in achieving impactful and results-driven implementation.

✅The review also reaffirmed the collective commitment of , the European Union, SADC and Government institutions to supporting evidence-based agricultural policies and programmes that contribute to enhanced food and nutrition security, resilient livelihoods and sustainable development outcomes.

Celebrating Zambia’s Climate Innovators!

After five weeks of intensive incubation training at BongoHive , the International Climate Initiative ( ) funded Innovation Challenge hosted an inspiring pitch event where 10 startup finalists showcased their climate smart solutions and innovation in agriculture, forestry and renewable energy.

We are proud to announce that Top 3 Winning Innovations, will each be awarded seed funding and capacity-building support to pilot their ideas and scale impact. These homegrown solutions will drive Zambia’s progress toward its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), while creating jobs, strengthening resilience and powering sustainable growth.

CALL FOR PROJECT IDEAS | ZAMBIA

The Government of Zambia, in collaboration with and with funding from the Green Climate Fund ( ), invites private sector actors, farmer organisations, cooperatives, financial institutions, CSOs and public entities to submit project ideas for climate‑resilient investment in agrifood systems.

This call is part of the GCF Readiness Project: Scaling Up Public‑Private Co‑Investments for Climate Action in Agrifood Systems, aimed at turning Zambia’s climate and agricultural priorities into bankable, investable projects.

Phase III officially launched

The Government of the Republic of Zambia, in partnership with the United Nations in Zambia, today launched the United Nations Joint Programme on Social Protection Phase III (2025–2028). A joint programme aimed at strengthening Zambia’s social protection system to better protect vulnerable households and build long-term resilience.

Social Protection Phase III is structured around three strategic pillars:

1. Enabling Provision of Rights-Based Social Protection - to strengthen social protection systems and ensure coordinated, accountable and sustainable support for vulnerable people at every stage of life.

2. Leveraging social protection for climate resilience and food security - positioning social protection as a key tool to help households and communities anticipate, withstand and recover from climate shocks.

3. Promoting gender-responsive and disability- inclusive social protection, ensuring that women, girls and persons with disabilities are equitably reached and supported, leaving no one behind.

The programme is implemented by the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Zambia Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia and the Disaster Management & Mitigation Unit - DMMU and the United Nations in Zambia through Unicef Zambia , , World Food Programme, with financial support of Sida - Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete , Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and United Kingdom Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (UKFCDO).

The funded project has launched the National Renewable Energy Trainers Network. The network has been officially launched by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia , represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Ronald Simumbwe.

This network is aligned with Zambia’s National Climate Change Learning Strategy (2021–2030), ensuring climate knowledge reaches institutions, industries and communities. It will empower trainers in solar PV, biogas, clean cooking, mini-grids, hydro, bioenergy and energy efficiency, building the green skills needed for our energy transition.

With 44 trainers already certified at Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre under the project, Zambia is set to multiply knowledge, strengthen collaboration and drive sustainable livelihoods.

The -NDC project is a consortium project under the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia implemented by , UNESCO , United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) , The University of Zambia -UNZA and The Copperbelt University.
