Phase III officially launched
The Government of the Republic of Zambia, in partnership with the United Nations in Zambia, today launched the United Nations Joint Programme on Social Protection Phase III (2025–2028). A joint programme aimed at strengthening Zambia’s social protection system to better protect vulnerable households and build long-term resilience.
Social Protection Phase III is structured around three strategic pillars:
1. Enabling Provision of Rights-Based Social Protection - to strengthen social protection systems and ensure coordinated, accountable and sustainable support for vulnerable people at every stage of life.
2. Leveraging social protection for climate resilience and food security - positioning social protection as a key tool to help households and communities anticipate, withstand and recover from climate shocks.
3. Promoting gender-responsive and disability- inclusive social protection, ensuring that women, girls and persons with disabilities are equitably reached and supported, leaving no one behind.
The programme is implemented by the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Zambia Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia and the Disaster Management & Mitigation Unit - DMMU and the United Nations in Zambia through Unicef Zambia , , World Food Programme, with financial support of Sida - Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete , Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and United Kingdom Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (UKFCDO).
