A Conversation We Need to Have: WHERE ARE THE BOYS?
Lately, many people have asked why most community and school programs focus mainly on the girl child. This question often comes from boys themselves. Many feel left out, and over time, they begin to question their value and place in society.Empowering girls is important but so is supporting boys.A balanced approach helps raise responsible, emotionally healthy young people. Boys also need guidance, especially around mental health. Many struggle in silence because they’re taught not to open up, leading to stress, substance abuse, and harmful choices something we see too often here in Zambia.
One young person said,in frustration, that when boys are ignored, they make harmful choices.Harsh, yes but it reflects a real feeling of exclusion.
The solution isn’t choosing one over the other. The solution is balance.
Let’s create safe, judgment-free spaces for boys and men.
Let’s empower both boys and girls.
No child should be left behind.
What are your thoughts? How can we better include boys?

A MESSAGE ON GBV FOR EVERY WOMAN, MAN & COMMUNITY

Gender-based violence doesn’t always happen in secret. Sometimes it happens right in front of us in our homes, in public spaces, even on a bus.The story of the woman who shared her pain openly teaches us important lessons we all need to understand:

ABUSE IS NOT ONLY PHYSICAL.
it is emotional, mental, and spiritual.
Bruises fade, but the emotional damage stays. When a woman cries, breaks down, or loses confidence, that is also abuse.

STAYING DOES NOT MEAN SHE WANTS THE VIOLENCE.
You will find that Many women stay because of fear, children, financial dependence, emotional manipulation and having real time Hope that he will change. These are real barriers, not weakness.

ABUSERS RARELY CHANGE WITHOUT INTERVENTION.
Saying “sorry” is not change.
Buying gifts is not change.
Crying after beating her is not change.
Real change requires counseling, accountability, and professional help.

CHILDREN WHO WITNESS VIOLENCE ARE ALSO VICTIMS.
They grow up with trauma, fear, and emotional scars.GBV affects the next generation.

A COMMUNITY THAT STAYS SILENT PROTECTS THE ABUSER
When neighbors, relatives, and friends ignore what is happening, the violence grows stronger.Speaking out saves lives.

HEALING STARTS WITH CHOOSING SAFETY OVER HOPE.
No woman should wait for her body to “get better” only to return to the same violence.
Safety is the first step toward healing.
GBV is everyone’s responsibility so as a society,we must believe survivors by giving them our full time support and creative a free judgmental community.let us teach them and encourage them to report any form of abuse and create safe spaces.
Let's teach boys and men about respect and non-violence too.

HER Journey Zambia stands to educate, support, and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Let’s break the cycle, let’s protect our women and let’s raise a generation that rejects violence.

Empower a woman. Save a life. Educate a community. End the violence.

ONLINE HARASSMENT IS VIOLENCE

In this digital age, abuse no longer waits behind closed doors it follows women onto their phones, into their inboxes, and across every platform they use.
And let’s be clear.Online harassment is NOT “just words.”It is a violation,It is abuse yes it is violence. From threats to insults from insults to humiliation from humiliation to leaked images online from leaked images online to stalking and bullying.

Women and girls are being attacked in spaces that were meant to connect us not destroy us.Every time a woman is silenced, shamed, or intimidated online, a piece of her freedom is taken away.Every cruel message steals her peace,Every public humiliation attacks her dignity and every threat endangers her safety.

And we refuse to be silent about it.

🧡We the HER Journey Zambia movement stands with every woman who has been targeted, mocked, exposed, or bullied online.
You deserve safety,You deserve respect,You deserve digital spaces that uplift you and not to break you.
This 16 Days of Activism, we are raising our voices to say:

NO MORE.
No more harassment,No more intimidation,No more digital violence against women and girls.
We will speak,We will fight,We will protect,We will educate and we will stand together.

Because your journey matters both online and offline.
Because your voice is powerful.
Because your safety is a right, not a privilege.

Yesterday, on my way to Zanimuone, something happened in the bus that has stayed with me. A woman received a phone call and began speaking loudly and painfully about what her husband has been putting her through. You could see the abuse on her face her eye was badly beaten, red, swollen, already turning black. Her voice carried both physical and emotional pain, and she almost cried as she spoke.

She said her husband beats her because of another woman he is seeing. They even text each other in her presence. She once checked his phone and found a message saying, “So you are home, it seems like you are respecting your wife more than me.” It broke her, because she believed he had changed. When she confronted him, he beat her terribly again.

But still, she stayed, hoping things would get better yet they only got worse. As he started doing better financially, he drank more and became even more violent. One night he came home drunk at midnight and beat her in front of their children. She told the kids to run to the neighbour’s home, and she escaped too and spent the night there.

After that, she went to her mother’s house with her children. The husband has been looking for her and spreading lies about her. On the phone, the person she was talking to asked if she still wanted to go back and shockingly, she said yes. She just wants time for her body to heal, still hoping he will change, despite the constant abuse.

Sitting in that bus, listening to her, my heart broke. But I also admired her courage. She spoke loudly, unashamed, sharing her truth in front of strangers. What hurts most is that even after all the violence, humiliation, and trauma, she still hasn’t made the decision to walk away.Imwe It truly broke my heart. 💔

🧡 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
HER Journey Zambia

Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,a global call for action, protection, and justice. This year’s theme is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls”, highlighting the growing harms women face online. But for us at HER Journey Zambia, this is more than a campaign. It is a responsibility, a commitment, and a promise to every woman and girl whose story has been silenced, ignored, or dismissed.Every day, women in our communities wake up with bruises they didn’t choose, pain they never deserved, and emotional wounds they carry alone.Every day, a girl somewhere is crying quietly, hoping someone will listen.Every day, a mother is telling her children to “run” while she finds the strength to survive another night.
GBV is not a headline it is happening right here, among us,to women we pass on buses, in markets, schools, homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods.

HER Journey Zambia stands to remind every survivor:Your story matters.Your voice matters.Your life matters. This year’s 16 Days remind us that silence protects the abuser, but speaking out protects the survivor. We choose to speak. We choose to stand. We choose to fight. We fight for the woman who is afraid to leave. We fight for the girl who thinks violence is love,We fight for the mother hiding her pain behind a smile,We fight for every survivor who deserves safety and dignity.

And because digital violence is part of the fight now, harassment, cyber‑stalking, image-based abuse, coercive control online we must also push for safe, inclusive, and respectful digital spaces. We call on governments, tech companies, communities, and individuals to act.Let these 16 days be a spark not just awareness, but action.Let us educate, protect, empower, and stand together until GBV becomes a thing of the past.
To every woman and girl:You are not alone. HER Journey Zambia walks with you.
This is your story,your journey
