🌴 BUILDING CLIMATE-RESILIENT FARMING IN OUR COMMUNITIES 🌴
On 26th September, we held our first community engagement and one day training sessions in Luchibiya and Mashimi communities, bringing together smallholder farmers and youths to discuss the impacts of climate change on agriculture in the two communities and explore Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices.
Farmers openly shared their experiences with erratic rainfall, prolonged dry spells, and declining soil fertility. Together we explored practical CSA solutions such as:
1. Crop rotation: to improve soil fertility and reduce pest cycles
2. Mixed cropping and Intercropping: to maximize land use, secure harvests and improve food security.
Through collaborative efforts with youth led organisations YouthConnect Mansa-Luapula Initiative Organisation and B4G Zambia, the sessions were interactive with farmers, women and youths contributing their own adaptation methods which where linked to CSA principles to strengthen local ownership.
By embracing these practices, our communities are taking steps towards resilient, sustainable and productive agriculture 🧑🌾.
