This still remains a problem, especially in africa we can do better.

🌱 Young people are already restoring ecosystems, defending territories, conserving species, building community, and shaping policy.

The challenge isn't a lack of action. It's a lack of funding.

New research from 161 youth-led initiatives across 57 countries shows how underinvestment in youth-led biodiversity work is holding back both young leaders and the wider conservation movement.

πŸ’š The question isn't whether funding youth is risky.

It's whether we can afford the risks of *not* funding them.

Today, we celebrate the richness of life that sustains our planet, from wetlands and forests to oceans and grasslands. Biodiversity is not only about protecting species; it is about safeguarding the ecosystems that support communities, climate resilience, food security, and our shared future.

We believe that young people have a critical role to play in restoring ecosystems, conserving wetlands, and driving local action with global impact. Every community initiative, awareness campaign, and restoration effort contributes to a healthier and more resilient world.

This year’s message reminds us that meaningful change begins locally. By protecting nature in our own communities, we collectively strengthen global biodiversity conservation efforts.

Together, let’s act locally for global impact.

Hi team,
We’re looking for a motivated ecology intern based in Livingstone, Zambia to support our biodiversity monitoring work under the SWM–CIFOR-ICRAF project in the Mize Conservancy.

The intern will help coordinate field surveys, deploy and manage camera traps and acoustic recorders, and assist with data uploads and reporting in collaboration with Map of Life and WildMon.

If you know any suitable candidate (recent graduate or early-career ecologist), please share their name and contact. Preferably someone available to start this month.

Thanks,
Griffin
