A 45-YEAR-OLD teacher at Eastern Girl’s Secondary School in Chipangali has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old grade nine pupil during holiday tuitions.

Mr Jairos Mtonga allegedly defiled the pupil in his office during holiday tuitions for examination classes at the said school.

Mr Mtonga defiled the grade nine pupil who had remained in school for extra lessons during the term two holiday to prepare for her grade nine exams.

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), in Chipata District has arrested a Zambian national in connection with the offence of Possession of Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand counterfeit Zambian Kwacha produced in K500 denominations.

The Commission has identified the suspect as Hamusonde Fuehrer aged 62, a resident of Hillsview area.

Two Die in Fatal Road Traffic Accident Near Mugabe Village

Two people have died following a fatal road traffic accident that occurred today at around 17:30 hours near the Mugabe Village turnoff along the Mwami Border Road in Chipata District.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba told Breeze FM News that the accident involved a motor vehicle—a Howo truck and trailer—belonging to Yaza Investment.

The truck was being driven by Lingson Ziwa, aged 51, of Chiswa Trading Center in Senior Chief Nzamane’s area. He escaped unhurt.

Also involved was a motorbike, which was extensively damaged. It was being ridden by James Mbao, age unknown, of Molosiyo Village in Malawi. He is believed to be a Malawian national.

Mbao sustained fatal head injuries and suspected fractured legs, and died on the spot.

The accident also involved a pedestrian, Florence Nkosi, aged 9, of Mugabe Village in Chief Mpezeni’s area of Chipata. She sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot.

Mr. Mweemba explained that the accident happened when the driver of the truck, due to excessive speed, swerved to the right side of the road and hit the motorbike rider who was joining the main road. The vehicle then struck the pedestrian.

The two bodies have since been deposited at Chipata Central Hospital awaiting postmortem examination.

Police in Mambwe District have launched a manhunt for 39 year old Thomas Mbewe of Tafika Village, Chief Jumbe, for allegedly defiling a 9 year old Girl.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba told Breeze FM News that the incident occurred yesterday around 14 hours.

He said Mbewe, a farmer, fled the area after the incident.

4 People Arrested after they were found with fake notes

ZANIS - Four people have been arrested in Mansa, Luapula province, for alleged possession of counterfeit money.

The suspects were found with FAKE 100 Kwacha notes, amounting to 59,000 Kwacha, as well as 4,400 fake dollars.

Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, MWALA YUYI has confirmed the development to ZANIS.

Mr YUYI has explained that the suspects were also found with printing equipment and ink, allegedly used in counterfeiting money.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has announced heightened motorized patrols to enforce road traffic rules and prevent accidents as schools reopen today.

Mr. Mweemba warned transport operators against overloading and excessive speeding, stating that the police will take strict action against offenders.

He urged parents and guardians to ensure their children use safe and reliable vehicles.

The warning follows a fatal road accident in Nyimba District about nine months ago, involving nine Kacholola Boarding School pupils. The accident claimed three lives due to overloading and excessive speed.

Mr. Mweemba called on the public and stakeholders to prioritize the safety and security of children over business interests.

A 25-year-old man of Romase Village, Chief Phikamalaza in Chasefu district has allegedly committed suîc!de after reportedly failing to pay money for the damage he had caused on a vehicle which he bashed.

According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, the deceased Danny Tembo went to a weekly market commonly known as Kabwandile at Lusuntha trading centre.

At around 19:00hrs Tembo called his uncle Mathews Kumwenda informing him that while at Kabwandila, he bashed into W***y Gondwe's vehicle.

Mr. Mweemba says at around 19:40hrs the deceased also called his elder brother Gladson Tembo asking for money to pay Gondwe and when he was told he had no money, he threatened to kill himself if money wasn't sent to him.

He explained that yesterday, Lundazi Police Station received a report of a person who had ended his life behind a named health facility by hanging himself on a tree using a fibre.

Mr. Mweemba says the body was deposited at Lundazi district hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem as demanded by relatives.

Njolo Man Dies After Allegedly Consuming Traditional Sexual Enhancer

A 25-year-old man from Njolo Village in Chipangali District has died after allegedly consuming a traditional sexual performance booster known locally as mvubwe.

According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, Gerald Banda of Njolo Village, under Chief Mafuta, is believed to have been poisoned by a man identified only as John, through the administration of the said traditional enhancer.

Mr. Mweemba told Breeze FM News that Gerald died in the early hours of Thursday, at Chitandika Rural Health Centre.

He said police suspect foul play, and a manhunt has since been launched, as the case is being treated as a possible murder.
