OFFICIAL STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: April 16, 2026
FROM: The Office of the Acting Spokesperson, ZATVVA.
SUBJECT: ZATVVA CELEBRATES THE PROFESSIONALISM OF ECZ AND THE STRENGTHENING OF DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS UNDER THE NEW DAWN ADMINISTRATION
The Zambians Against Tribalism, Violence, and Voter Apathy (ZATVVA) welcomes the recently published list of new constituencies by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as a significant milestone in our nation’s democratic journey.
For many years, the delimitation of constituencies was viewed with suspicion, with many fearing it would be a tool for political advantage. However, the ECZ has today demonstrated that it is a truly professional and independent body.
This achievement is a clear testament to the conducive environment created by the UPND Government, which has consistently championed the independence of state institutions and the strict respect for the separation of powers.
Where others may have sought to interfere, the current administration has allowed the ECZ the space to function with autonomy.
This professionalism ensures that the new constituencies are not merely lines on a map, but a true reflection of the aspirations of the Zambian people for better representation and more localized development.
We commend the Commission for looking at the nation as a whole and operating with a level of fairness that restores public confidence in our electoral system.
As we celebrate this institutional success, ZATVVA recognizes that the work is only beginning. To fully realize the benefits of this exercise, there is an urgent need for massive sensitization.
We must ensure that every Zambian, from the bustling streets of Lusaka to the furthest rural outposts, understands what these changes mean. The creation of new constituencies is a win for the people, and it is vital that they are educated on their new boundaries and how this brings leadership closer to their doorsteps.
ZATVVA strongly encourages a collaborative effort toward voter sensitization. We call upon all stakeholders to join in educating the masses in both the new and old constituencies.
Informed citizens are the backbone of a vibrant democracy, and by removing confusion, we directly combat voter apathy.
Under this era of professional governance and institutional respect, let us work together to ensure that every Zambian is empowered with the knowledge to participate fully in our thriving democracy.
