📌 2,070 LEARNERS CONNECTED TO OPPORTUNITIES📚

For many learners in rural communities, completing Grade 12 is only one part of the journey. Knowing what opportunities exist after school and how to access them can make all the difference.

During the second quarter of 2026, ZANEC, together with the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) and CAMFED, took information on higher education loans and scholarships directly to learners in Samfya and Chifunabuli Districts.

Across 10 schools, 2,070 participants were reached, including Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners and school leavers.

Learners were equipped with information on how to access higher education loans and scholarships, while being encouraged to work hard academically and pursue opportunities available to eligible Zambians.

📢📢ZANEC COMMENDS GOVERNMENT ON LEARNER COUNCILS DIRECTIVE

📍 Yesterday, the Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC), with support from Education Out Loud (EOL), convened a Research Dissemination Meeting to present and validate findings from two key studies on the implementation of the 2023 Education Curriculum and the status of Special Education Teachers and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in schools. The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, the National Assembly of Zambia, cooperating partners, civil society organisations and other education stakeholders to review the findings and identify priority actions for strengthening Zambia's education sector.

The research, which covered 10 provinces and 374 schools, highlighted progress made in implementing the 2023 Education Curriculum while identifying key challenges, including shortages of teaching and learning materials, inadequate infrastructure, weak ICT integration, limited teacher capacity, and low implementation at the Early Childhood Education (ECE) level. Stakeholders recommended strengthening teacher training, improving teacher deployment and motivation, investing in ICT and school infrastructure, and prioritising the printing and distribution of learner materials, particularly to rural schools.

The findings were highly appreciated by the Ministry of Education- Zambia, which affirmed that the evidence generated will help inform the Ministry's Mid-Term Review and strengthen education planning and decision-making. The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly National Assembly of Zambia also welcomed the findings, noting that they will support parliamentary advocacy on education issues, and encouraged ZANEC and its partners to present the findings to the Parliamentary Committee on Education to further strengthen evidence-based policy dialogue.

ZANEC remains committed to championing evidence-based advocacy and working collaboratively with Government, Parliament and cooperating partners to ensure that research informs policies and practical interventions that advance equitable, inclusive and quality education for every learner.

📍Speaking this morning during the ZANEC Research Dissemination Meeting, Board Chairperson Mr. Henry Kabwe emphasized the critical role of evidence-based research in strengthening education policy, planning, and decision-making. He noted that the dissemination meeting provided an important platform for stakeholders to validate findings from two key studies: the Status of Education Report on the Implementation of the 2023 Education Curriculum and the Situational Analysis on Special Education Teachers and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Facilities in Schools.

Mr. Kabwe highlighted that the findings from the studies provide practical evidence to strengthen the implementation of the 2023 Education Curriculum, improve the deployment of special education teachers, and enhance the provision of safe, accessible, gender-responsive, and disability-inclusive WASH facilities in schools. He called on Government, cooperating partners, civil society organisations and all education stakeholders to move beyond dialogue by translating the research findings into concrete actions that will advance equitable, inclusive and quality education for every learner.

The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to championing evidence-based advocacy and working collaboratively with Government, cooperating partners and other stakeholders to strengthen the implementation of the 2023 Education Curriculum, improve inclusive education, and ensure that research findings inform policies and programmes that improve learning outcomes for all learners in Zambia.

Through the School Re-entry Policy Bus Campaign, ZANEC, with support from the GIZ PEAT Project, engaged hundreds of community members across Kabwe District, raising awareness of the School Re-entry Policy and the Free Education Policy.
