🚨 SUPER EL NIÑO IS COMING 2026 -2027 - BE GREEN SMART ! BE READY ,EDUCATE AND SHARE THIS INFORMATION
ADVISORY – AGRICULTURAL INSTITUTE OF ZAMBIA

The last time Zambia experienced an El Niño weather pattern during the 2023/2024 farming season, many communities were caught unprepared. The prolonged drought led to severe crop failures, water shortages, and food insecurity, resulting in the drought being declared a National Disaster in February 2024.

This time, we must be proactive.

🌱 Farmers, communities, institutions, and businesses are encouraged to begin preparing now by:

✅ Adopting climate-smart agricultural practices
✅ Conserving water and protecting water sources
✅ Planting drought-tolerant crop varieties
✅ Investing in irrigation and water harvesting technologies
✅ Protecting forests and promoting tree planting for climate resilience
✅ Staying informed through official weather and agricultural advisories

Climate change continues to challenge our livelihoods, but preparedness can make the difference between vulnerability and resilience.

At the grassroots level, we are mobilizing communities, sharing knowledge, and strengthening local resilience because we are not making the same mistake again.

Together, let us prepare, adapt, and build a climate-resilient Zambia.

Hydrogel Tree planting 🌳Together We plant Hope! We Empower Communities as We build Tomorrow!
June World Environment Month 2026! 🌱🌍
Mosi-Oa-Tunya Green Marathon 2026

Together with Booma Women Cooperative and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka in Zambia, at Mukuni Village in Livingstone, we proudly hosted corporates, government institutions, and local authorities from across Zambia for a Hydrogel Tree Planting Exercise in commemoration of World Environment Day 2026 under the theme:

"Accelerating Zambia's Climate Action for Green Growth and Sustainability."

The event was graced by the Southern Province Permanent Secretary, Dr. Namani Monze represented by District Commissioner Kazungula, The Prime Minister Mukuni Royal Establishement, along side Livingstone City Council Town Clerk Ms Sombo Kawilila and representatives from The Czech Republic Embassy, alongside Head representatives from Zambia Sugar, Access Bank, Zanaco, IZWE, ZITHS, Zesco ,Maramba River Lodge, Livingstone City Council Livingstone, Chilanga Town Council, Siavonga Town Council, southern province Forestry Department and our school learners from Livingstone International School , Libuyu Primary School and many other stakeholders committed to environmental sustainability.

A key highlight of the event was the promotion of the Hydrogel Tree Planting Technique, an innovative solution that significantly improves tree survival rates, especially during drought periods. Hydrogel acts as a water reservoir within the soil, absorbing and storing water before slowly releasing it to the roots when moisture is scarce. This helps trees withstand prolonged dry spells and can increase tree survival rates by up to 80% during drought seasons.

Too often, tree planting initiatives focus on the number of trees planted without adequate attention to whether those trees survive and mature. Hydrogel technology offers hope by shifting the focus from simply planting trees to ensuring they grow, thrive, and deliver lasting environmental benefits. It is a practical and sustainable approach that helps guarantee that our collective efforts in reforestation and climate action translate into real impact on the ground.

As we continue to accelerate Zambia's climate action agenda, we remain committed to promoting innovative solutions that build resilient ecosystems, strengthen communities, promote livelihoods and secure a greener future for generations to come.

Every tree planted must live. Every partnership must create impact. Together, we are accelerating climate action for green growth and sustainability. 🌳💚🇿🇲
