🌍✨ World Diabetes Day 2024 ✨🌍

Today, on World Diabetes Day, we join the global movement to raise awareness about diabetes and its impact on millions of lives. This year’s theme, “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps,” calls for action to eliminate the obstacles that prevent people from accessing care, education, and treatment for diabetes.

At Diabetes Association Zambia, we are committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent proper diabetes care and ensuring that every Zambian has the opportunity to live a healthy life. Together, let’s bridge the gaps in awareness, support, and resources—because no one should be left behind.

💙 Let’s stand united, spread awareness, and create a future where diabetes is manageable for all.

MYTH OR FACT MONDAY !
Type 1 diabetes cannot be cured by diet or exercise. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. People with Type 1 diabetes need insulin therapy to manage blood glucose, regardless of their diet or fitness level.

While healthy habits are essential for everyone, they don’t replace the need for insulin in Type 1 diabetes management. Let’s support accurate information and better understanding for those living with this condition. 💙

Walking is a gentle exercise that can help regulate blood sugar levels and support overall health! 🌿 However, remember that walking doesn’t replace insulin, and it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise routine.

Myth vs. Fact

There are many myths surrounding diabetes! Starting this week, we’ll debunk a new myth each week.

Myth: “Diabetes is caused by eating too much sugar.”

Fact: Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the defense system mistakenly attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This leads to little or no insulin production, resulting in high blood sugar levels. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 is not caused by diet or lifestyle factors. Instead, it involves a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental triggers, such as viral infections.

Stay tuned every Monday as we uncover the truth behind common diabetes myths and provide you with accurate facts. Empower yourself with knowledge and help spread awareness!
