PRIORITIZING QUALITY HEALTHCARE FOR LIMA CONSTITUENCY
As we prepare to take up leadership of Lima Constituency in August this year, one of our foremost priorities is the transformation of the healthcare system. Quality healthcare begins with access—access to well-equipped facilities, a consistent supply of essential medicines, and an adequate number of qualified health personnel.
Our commitment is clear: we will actively lobby for the establishment of a Level One Hospital in Lima Constituency, in line with what exists in older constituencies. In addition, we will champion the construction of first-level health clinics in every major community, including Zingalume, Barlaston, Chunga, and Government Farms. These clinics will operate on a 24/7 basis, ensuring that residents can access healthcare services at any time.
We shall work closely with the Ministry of Health, cooperating partners, and local communities to achieve these targets. The construction of first-level health clinics will be supported through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), ensuring sustainable and community-driven implementation.
This approach will significantly ease the burden on the few existing facilities—such as George Clinic, Chunga Clinic, and Chimwemwe Clinic—of which only George Clinic currently provides round-the-clock services. Expanding access will not only improve service delivery but also reduce congestion and waiting times.
We must not allow our mothers and young girls to travel long distances in search of antenatal and maternal healthcare. Every resident deserves timely, dignified, and quality medical attention within their community.
A healthy population is the foundation of a productive society. If we are to build a thriving local economy, our people must be in good health and supported by a strong healthcare system staffed with sufficient and competent professionals.
