Zambian Albinism Alliance (ZAA): Advocating for the Rights, Dignity, and Well-being of People Living with Albinism
At the Zambian Albinism Alliance (ZAA), we are dedicated to improving the lives of people living with albinism in Zambia by advocating for their rights and ensuring they have access to essential resources and opportunities. Our mission is to promote inclusivity and equal treatment through education, healthcare, and social empowerment.
Key Objectives of the Zambian Albinism Alliance
Advocating for Big Font Examination Papers One of our primary objectives is to lobby for the use of large-font examination papers at all educational levels for candidates with albinism. Visual impairments are a common challenge for people with albinism, and ensuring accessibility in education is a step toward leveling the playing field and supporting their academic success.
Creating a Comprehensive Register of People Living with Albinism The ZAA is committed to registering and maintaining a national database of all individuals living with albinism in Zambia. This register will enable better monitoring of their needs and help us advocate more effectively for their rights, healthcare, and education.
Ensuring Access to Quality Sunscreen We work closely with the Ministry of Health to lobby for the provision of quality sunscreens to protect the sensitive skin of people with albinism. Access to adequate sunscreen is vital in preventing skin cancer, which poses a significant threat to those living with this condition.
Full Participation in National Programs ZAA strives to enable persons with albinism to participate fully in national programs, policies, and activities. Our goal is to help alleviate poverty, increase income opportunities, and improve access to education and healthcare for people with albinism, as well as their communities.
Training Medical Personnel We actively engage with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the Ministry of Health trains medical personnel capable of identifying and treating skin cancer. Skin cancer is a serious health risk for individuals with albinism, and having trained professionals is critical in providing the care they need.
Sourcing Funds for Albinism Organizations We are committed to sourcing funding from the government, private sector, and international donors to support albinism-related organizations in Zambia. By securing funds, we can strengthen programs that benefit people with albinism and promote their well-being.
Consultancy for Government and Civil Society As a consultancy body, ZAA collaborates with the government, organizations, foundations, agencies, churches, and other civil societies to contribute to the development of Zambia. We aim to create a more inclusive society where individuals with albinism are valued and empowered.
Registering Albinism Organizations in Zambia ZAA is focused on registering all organizations dealing with albinism in Zambia. We aim to bring together these organizations under a unified framework to work in harmony toward shared goals.
Ensuring Accountability and Ethical Practices It is our priority to ensure that all albinism organizations operate ethically and align with the objectives and constitution of the Zambian Albinism Alliance. We work to protect people with albinism from being exploited or misled by organizations claiming to represent their interests.
