The Young Boy Awake Empowering Boys for a Brighter Future

While Zambia has free education, it is still not fully accessible to every child. Small limitations such as lack of school requirements like books, uniforms, school shoes, bags and other essential materials continue to prevent some families from taking their children to school.

This is where Young Boy Awake comes in through our Education Support Program. We step in to provide the support the boy child needs in order to stay in school and focus on learning.

There are many young boys out there who are not in school and could greatly benefit from such an opportunity.

Today, we are calling upon members of the public, well-wishers, NGOs, companies and government institutions to partner with us in this mission. Our goal is to have more than 45 boys enrolled and supported in school by YBA by the year 2028.

We understand that this vision cannot be achieved alone, but together we can make a greater impact and help shape a better future for the boy child.

Today, we commemorated the International Day of the Boy Child with an impactful session at George Clinic Youth Friendly Spaces, where we engaged young minds in meaningful conversations about life challenges, stress, and healthy coping mechanisms. đź’™

It was inspiring to hear young people openly share their experiences, struggles, and the different ways they overcome difficult moments. Through these discussions, we reminded one another that no challenge is permanent and that speaking up, seeking support, and making positive choices can change lives.

The stories shared today were powerful, honest, and motivating. Together, we continue to create safe spaces where boys and young people can learn, grow, and be heard.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE BOY CHILD 2026Theme: “Boys for Integrity” 💙

Today, we join the world in commemorating the International Day of the Boy Child — a day dedicated to recognizing, supporting, and empowering boys to become responsible and impactful members of society.

This year’s theme, “Boys for Integrity,” reminds us of the importance of raising boys who value honesty, discipline, accountability, respect, and good character. In a society facing increasing social and moral challenges, integrity remains one of the strongest foundations for building responsible men and stronger communities.

At Young Boy Awake, we recognize that many boys today are silently struggling with mental health challenges, substance abuse, peer pressure, abuse, unemployment, and lack of mentorship. Too often, boys are expected to remain silent about their pain while carrying the weight of societal expectations alone.

As parents, guardians, teachers, leaders, and communities, we have a responsibility to guide, mentor, protect, and create safe spaces where boys can grow with confidence, purpose, and integrity.

Supporting the boy child is not about competing with anyone. It is about ensuring that boys also receive the guidance, emotional support, opportunities, and mentorship needed to become responsible men who positively contribute to society.

The boy child is not a problem. He is potential waiting to be nurtured. He is a future leader waiting to be guided.

Happy International Day of the Boy Child. đź’™

To all those who have been supporting us directly or indirectly, we are sending this love sign to you ❤️

Supporting the boy child in this era, where most attention is focused on the girl child, is not easy. Yet many of you have stood with us and believed in our mission.

Some of you have liked our posts, commented, shared our messages, and spread awareness in your communities. Others have gone even further by recommending us on higher tables and opening doors for our work.

Every single act of support means something to us.

We want you all to know that we are truly grateful. Your support gives us strength to keep speaking, advocating, and working for the welfare of the boy child.

Together, we are making a difference.

We are excited to share that we have officially enrolled our very first child under the YBA Sponsorship Program — Benson “Chite” Kalonda.

YBA will fully support Benson as he begins Grade One at John Laing School. This includes school fees, uniforms, shoes, books, and all other school necessities needed for his education journey.

This is a major milestone for the YBA team and proof that even without major funding, we can still make a real difference in our society. We are deeply grateful to every team member who committed themselves to making this possible and helping this vision become a reality.

Today, after meeting with the headmaster of the school, we took Benson to town and purchased everything he will need as he prepares to attend school for the very first time.

Beyond sponsorship, YBA will also mentor Benson throughout his journey. Most importantly, we desire to lead him to Christ so that as he pursues education, he may also grow to understand God’s love and appreciate what God is doing in his life.

Spending time with Benson today was filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Above all, we were inspired by his strong desire to finally go to school.

We believe many more young boys can be supported if more people join this mission. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

The Mpulungu case should concern all of us.

A 26-year-old woman was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy.

As YBA, we ask an important question: would society react the same way if the victim was a 16-year-old girl and the offender was a grown man?

There would likely be national outrage, protests, nonstop discussions, and demands for harsher punishment. But because the victim in this case is a boy, many people are choosing silence or treating the matter lightly.

This is exactly why conversations around the protection of the boy child matter. Boys can also be victims of sexual abuse, coercion, and exploitation — and their pain should never be minimized.

An 18-month sentence for sexually abusing a child raises serious concern and public debate. Abuse is abuse, regardless of who the victim is. Justice and protection should apply equally to every child.

As a society, we must stop normalizing or laughing off abuse against boys. A child remains a child.
