LUSAKA, ZAMBIA | 7–13 June 2026

Nine Zambian leaders have successfully graduated as Development Educators (DEs) through the globally recognized Africa Development Educators (ADE) Program delivered by the ACCOSCA Academy. The graduates join a growing network of Development Educators in Zambia dedicated to strengthening SACCOs, promoting financial inclusion, and driving sustainable community development. Through intensive training in cooperative leadership, community empowerment, and socio-economic transformation, they are now equipped to lead positive change within Zambia’s cooperative sector.

*Strengthening SACCO Governance Through Training*

LUSAKA, MAY 2026

As part of its commitment to strengthening SACCO governance and sustainability, the National Savings and Credit Union Association (NASCU) conducted a training program for the World Vision Supervisory Committee. The training focused on equipping committee members with the knowledge and skills required to effectively execute their core mandate of assurance, and governance support.

Through this capacity building initiative, participants gained a deeper understanding of their supervisory roles and responsibilities, enabling them to contribute more effectively to the growth, stability, and sound management of the SACCO. Emphasis was placed on providing assurance mechanisms that enhance accountability, transparency, and operational efficiency within the institution.

NASCU remains dedicated to supporting SACCOs through continuous training and capacity building programs. By empowering key governance structures with the necessary competencies, NASCU aims to promote well managed, sustainable, and resilient SACCOs that can effectively serve their members and contribute to long term financial inclusion and economic development.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – MAY 2026 – The National Association of Savings and Credit Unions (NASCU) proudly participated in the 2026 ACCOSCA Southern Bloc Regional Forum, a strategic platform that brought together cooperative leaders from across Southern Africa to discuss the future of SACCOs through strengthened governance, strategic leadership, innovation, and institutional resilience.

The forum convened over 120 cooperative leaders, policymakers, regulators, and practitioners who engaged in meaningful discussions on building sustainable and future-ready cooperative financial institutions capable of meeting the evolving needs of their members and communities.

The Zambian delegation, coordinated through NASCU, was represented by Zambia Police Thrift SACCO, Zambia Air Force CUSA, CareCoop Savings and Credit Society Limited, and Pamodzi SACCO. Their participation reflected Zambia’s commitment to advancing cooperative excellence and strengthening the SACCO movement through regional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

A notable contribution came from Madam Charity Munganga, Deputy Inspector General of the Zambia Police Service and Chairperson of Zambia Police Thrift SACCO, who challenged cooperative leaders across Africa to embrace leadership development and governance best practices as key drivers of institutional trust and long-term sustainability.

Mrs Mutinta Lumayi, the NASCU Executive lead Consultant who serves as Chief Executive Officer of CareCoop, on a panel of leaders at the forum, reaffirmed the vital role SACCOs play in promoting financial inclusion, mobilizing savings, supporting entrepreneurship, empowering women and youth, and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development across Africa.

NASCU remains committed to supporting its member SACCOs through advocacy, capacity building, and strategic partnerships that strengthen the cooperative financial sector and improve the lives of members.

Together, we are building stronger SACCOs, stronger communities, and a stronger Africa.

*NASCU STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH ZAMBIA AIR FORCE CUSA*

Lusaka, Zambia, 29 May 2026

The National Savings and Credit Union (NASCU) Board of Directors on Friday paid a courtesy call on Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Deputy Commander and Chief of Air Staff (COAIRS), Major General Henry Chiwaya, at Air Force Headquarters in Lusaka as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and advance the cooperative movement in Zambia.

The NASCU delegation was led by Board Chairperson Brigadier General Fenanda Hamanenga and included board members Mr Isaac Mwape and Mrs Mwape Zulu along with the lead Consulting Executive, Mrs Mutinta Lumayi. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest aimed at enhancing the growth, sustainability, and digital transformation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs).

Speaking during the meeting, Brigadier General Hamanenga said the courtesy visit was intended to promote the interests of SACCOs and reinforce collaboration between NASCU and its affiliate institutions.
She emphasized NASCU's commitment to strengthening the cooperative movement in Zambia by promoting sound governance, capacity building, and institutional development to ensure confidence among members and stakeholders.

Mrs Mutinta Lumayi highlighted the Union's key strategic priorities, which include advocacy, capacity building, and the development of shared platforms that will accelerate digitalization and innovation in SACCOs. She noted that digital transformation has become increasingly important in improving service delivery, strengthening accountability, and expanding financial inclusion among SACCO members across the country.

The NASCU leadership also commended the Zambia Air Force Cooperative Savings and Credit Union Association (ZAF CUSA) for embracing digitalization and pursuing initiatives aimed at improving access to financial services and lowering lending rates for members.

Receiving the delegation, Major General Chiwaya expressed appreciation for NASCU's continued support to ZAF CUSA through board and management training programmes, mentorship initiatives, and governance guidance. He reaffirmed the Zambia Air Force's support for cooperative savings and credit institutions, describing them as critical contributors to financial stability, economic resilience, and improved welfare for military personnel, civilian staff, and their families.

Major General Chiwaya further underscored the importance of strong governance structures, prudent financial management, and innovation in ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of SACCOs.

The meeting concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation, promoting good governance, and leveraging technology to improve financial inclusion and member value within Zambia's cooperative sector.
