FOLLOWER OPINION

"The stagnation of Zambia's Keep Zambia Clean campaign can be attributed to a prevalent tendency to assign blame to individual citizens rather than addressing systemic issues, particularly those within the purview of local authorities, such as the council. A key factor contributing to this issue is the inadequacy of waste disposal infrastructure.
The lack of sufficient trash bins in public spaces, such as across Lusaka, exacerbates the problem, as individuals are left without appropriate means to dispose of waste responsibly. For instance, pedestrians consuming food and beverages are unlikely to carry trash with them for extended periods, highlighting the need for accessible disposal options.
To effect meaningful change, it is imperative that local authorities prioritize the provision of adequate waste management infrastructure, including the strategic placement of trash bins in high-traffic areas. By addressing these systemic shortcomings, Zambia can create an environment that supports and encourages citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, ultimately contributing to the success of the Keep Zambia Clean campaign.
Public awareness campaigns can also play a crucial role in educating citizens about proper waste disposal practices, the importance of recycling, and the impact of littering on the environment. Enhanced waste collection services, particularly in densely populated areas, can prevent waste accumulation and reduce the likelihood of littering. By adopting a multi-faceted approach, Lusaka can make significant strides in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for its residents."
