Good morning Facebook family,
We are pleased to share that last week marked two important advocacy milestones we have been part of over the past 4 years ;
1. Calling for stiffer punishment for sexual offences
Zambia officially enacted the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act No. 4 of 2026, which makes sexual offences including r**e, defilement, and in**st non-bailable. This law requires suspects of these crimes to remain in custody without bail or police bond until their cases are concluded, strengthening protections for victims.
2. Launch of the Dapivirine Viginal Ring (DVR)
Zambia has launched the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring (DVR)! Yesterday, the Ministry of Health and NAC officially launched a NEW HIV prevention option for women and adolescent girls in Zambia, the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring (DVR).
At Phakama Africa, we continue to work towards Engaging, Educating and Empowering our communities for Social Justice
