Yesterday marked a significant milestone at the ๐–๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ž in ๐‹๐ฎ๐ฌ๐š๐ค๐š ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐๐š๐ซ๐ค, as together with our valued partners at the Department of National Parks & Wildlife, we proudly hosted the official launch of seven ๐†๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐š๐ ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ฌ (๐†๐Œ๐๐ฌ) for Zambiaโ€™s protected areas, including the GMP for ๐‹๐ฎ๐ฌ๐š๐ค๐š ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐๐š๐ซ๐ค.

We were honoured to welcome our Guest of Honour, Hon. Rodney Malindi Sikumba, whose leadership and commitment have been instrumental in driving the development of these critical frameworks. More than policy documents, these GMPs represent a roadmap for the future of Zambiaโ€™s protected landscapes, strengthening collaboration between government, private sector, and conservation stakeholders to safeguard biodiversity, empower communities, and support Zambiaโ€™s growing tourism economy.

It was especially meaningful for the Wildlife Discovery Centre to host this landmark occasion. In a full-circle moment, Minister Sikumba officially opened the Centre in 2022, and yesterdayโ€™s event marked his final official engagement under his current term as ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐“๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for his support, passion, and dedication to conservation and tourism in Zambia, and wish him every success in the journey ahead.

Today, the team at the ๐†๐‘๐ˆ ๐–๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ž, alongside our amazing volunteers, got hands-on with our very first ele-poo paper making session!

Using recycled scrap paper and sterilised elephant dung fibre, weโ€™ve started creating eco-friendly gift tags, toy labels, soap wrappers, gift cards and more, turning waste into something meaningful while giving new life to materials that wouldโ€™ve otherwise been thrown away.

Every tag tells a conservation story, proving that even elephant poo can play a part in sustainability and creativity ๐Ÿ’š
