Global PR President Jets into Zambia
…as Prof. Green salutes Zambia for professionalising PR practice

Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management President, Professor Justin Green, has arrived in Zambia to engage different stakeholders on Communication and PR matters ahead of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) to be held in Abuja, Nigeria, in November 2026.

Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) Council members and Secretariat received Prof. Green from Ireland on Thursday this week.

Professor Green's visit to Zambia marks a significant milestone to the country and reflects growing international confidence in the country's Public Relations (PR) and Communication profession.

Today (August 7, 2026), Prof. Green alongside ZIPRC Council members paid a call on Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana.

During the meeting, the discussions centred on Zambia's strides made in recent years in strengthening strategic communication, media development and public engagement.

Among the key milestones highlighted was the introduction of Principal Public Relations Officer (PPRO) positions across Government Ministries and Provinces, a landmark initiative designed to strengthen two-way communication between citizens and the State.

The meeting also reaffirmed Government's commitment to support Communication and PR Practice through the enactment of the Access to Information Act, alongside continued efforts to build a professional and sustainable media landscape through capacity development.

Addressing the meeting, Professor Green commended Zambia's remarkable progress in professionalising PR, describing the country as a global benchmark.

"The whole world is looking to Zambia on how to professionalise Public Relations. The enactment into law of the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication Act No. 11 of 2022 has positioned Zambia as a model that many nations can learn from," he said.

Professor Green also extended an invitation to Permanent Secretary Mr. Thabo Kawana to participate in the World Public Relations Forum in Nigeria in November this year.

Representing ZIPRC President Patricia Luhanga, Immediate Past President Irene Lungu Chipili, FZIPRC, conveyed the President's apologies for her absence, noting that she was attending to national duties.

Ms. Chipili observed that the profession's continued growth and professionalisation in Zambia had been made possible through the unwavering support of the Government.
"ZIPRC is grateful for the support which Government has consistently given to the PR and Communication profession. That partnership has enabled PR in Zambia to thrive and become one of the continent's and indeed the world's leading example of professional excellence," she said.

Speaking at the same meeting, Mr. Kawana said the Government of the Republic of Zambia is committed to elevating PR and professional communication practices within Zambia's public sector to international standards.

He cited the recruitment of PPROs across various Government sectors; a position that never existed before, as one of the key milestones.

Mr. Kawana said the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, deeply understands the critical value of robust communication and absolute media freedom in a thriving democracy.

ZIPRC is encouraged by the growing collaboration between Zambia and the Global Alliance, a partnership that continues to advance professional standards, ethical practice and excellence in public relations and communication management.

With international delegates already arriving in the country, anticipation continues to build for the World Public Relations Forum, where Zambia will proudly take centre stage in shaping the future of the global public relations profession.

Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management is the confederation of the world’s major PR and Communication Management Associations and institutions representing more than 360, 000 practitioners and academics from all the continents of the world.

The theme for World PR Day 2026 -The Golden Age of Strategic PR" - is a powerful reminder that the profession has entered a defining era.

As artificial intelligence reshapes communication and societies grapple with misinformation, uncertainty and declining trust, the value of public relations will increasingly be measured not by technology, but by human judgement, ethical leadership and the ability to build enduring relationships.

When we embarked on the journey to establish ZAPRA in 2008, our aspiration was to build a profession that would one day be recognised as a strategic partner in leadership and national development.

The establishment of ZIPRC through an Act of Parliament reflects how far that vision has come - not only in Zambia, but as part of a global movement that has elevated public relations from tactical communication to strategic counsel.

In the commemoration of World PR Day, let us challenge ourselves to continue earning our place in the boardroom, champion ethical communication, embrace innovation without surrendering our humanity, and invest in the next generation of professionals.

The Golden Age of Strategic PR is not something we should merely celebrate, it is a responsibility we must collectively shape.

Nicky Shabolyo, FZIPRC
Founding and First President
Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (Formerly ZAPRA)
