Empowering Young Storytellers and Changemakers in Kafue
Today marked the official opening of the Community Storytelling and Digital Media Training under the Impact Innovation Initiative Project, bringing together young people to learn how to document and amplify the stories that matter most in their communities.
Speaking during the opening session, PPHPZ Country Coordinator Nelson Ncube emphasized the organization's commitment to youth empowerment, stating that young people are not leaders of tomorrow, but leaders of today. He encouraged participants, particularly young women, to take a keen interest in storytelling and community advocacy, noting that many young girls remain vulnerable in underserved communities and that their voices must be heard.
Mr. Ncube challenged participants to use technology positively, highlighting the opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI), social media, and digital platforms. He urged the youth to become agents of change by documenting community issues, amplifying untold stories, and using their phones as powerful tools for networking, learning, and creating opportunities.
"Let us not bury what is happening in our communities. Let's tell our stories, raise awareness, and inspire action," he said, while expressing his expectation of seeing impactful and compelling stories emerge from Kafue.
The training objectives were presented by Shikanda Kawanga who outlined the programme's goal of equipping participants with practical skills in:
Photography, Videography, Video Editing, AI-Assisted Content Creation, Community Storytelling and Documentation, Communication and Advocacy Techniques
The training seeks to empower young people to effectively document community challenges, lessons learned, and stories of transformation while becoming active contributors to local development and social change.
