Thandizani Integrated Health and Development Programs, a Local Non-Governmental Organization, is seeking qualified, experienced and highly motivated Project Officer - HIV - who will coordinate THANDIZANI EXPANDING ACCESS TO HIV PREVENTION AND TREATMENT SERVICES FOR ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE PROJECT.
The strategies will require a multi-sectoral approach involving health, education, community leaders, and CSOs. Interventions to be implemented will focus on.
• Enhancing positive social norms and attitudes that respect and promote meaningful adolescent engagement and participation in health
• Building the awareness, skills, capacities of adults to interact with adolescents in a respectful, participatory and inclusive way and to partner with adolescents as change agents.
• Building the awareness, skills and capacities of AYP to meaningfully engage in health programmes throughout the project implementation cycle. This will entail increasing access to adolescent friendly information; building capacity through training.
• Creating and sustaining platforms for adolescent participation through representation in community structures, peer service delivery and structures to review and monitor programmes targeting them
Primary Responsibilities:
• Report to Project Manager
• To identify, train and support the adolescent and youth counsellors who will support the newly diagnosed HIV positive adolescents and be enrolled into care.
• Coordinate with MOH
• Promote Community Based HIV testing
• Promote HIV prevention-condom programming
• Promote STI screening and testing
• Promote HIV prevention-communication and demand creation
• Promotes pre-exposure prophylaxis (PREP) Programming,
• Promotes sexual and reproductive health services
• Promote voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC)
• Strengthening community-led monitoring
• Training and mobilizing community peer promoters
• Promote the establishment of youth-friendly safe spaces
• Prepare monthly and quarterly, performance reports and share the same with the project manager.
• Identify, document and share key lessons learnt and successes of the project.
• Network with local organizations involved in adherence to ART and promote linkages between Health facilities and organizations providing HIV support services in their community.
• Undertake other duties as assigned by management
Desired Qualifications:
• Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Social Sciences, Nursing, Public Health, Community health, or equivalent. A degree will be an added advantage.
• Experience working in adherence, counselling and psychosocial support and community linkages in HIV care and treatment/PMTCT.
• HIV/AIDS knowledge and related experience
• Background in community development activities
• Leadership and counselling skills
• Good interpersonal, organizational, communication skills.
• Able to work in cross-cultural settings
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and to organize and prioritize competing activities
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Familiarity with the Zambia Health system, HIV Community programs, facility care and treatment program implementation and documentation.
• Possess adequate facilitation, mentoring and counselling skills.
• Proficient Computer skills (Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms Power Point).
