EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH SUSTAINABLE CHICKEN FARMING IN LUANSHYA

The chicken farming project in Luanshya, proudly sponsored by the ODCEM organization, continues to transform the lives of many women in the community. This initiative empowers women to feed their families, fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

To address challenges posed by electricity deficits, we have invested in solar power systems and refrigeration units. These measures significantly reduce losses, ensuring the program’s sustainability and stability.

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to ODCEM Organization for the invaluable support they have rendered to our Zambian community, especially in founding our chicken farming projects. This initiative is making a significant impact in reducing the high levels of poverty we face. FRUSTRATING TIMES WE ARE ALL FACING

Running a women-led chicken business in Luanshya, Zambia, faces significant challenges due to high inflation rates and the impacts of the El Niño drought. High inflation erodes purchasing power, making essential inputs such as feed, vaccines, and equipment more expensive. This increase in costs squeezes profit margins and forces businesses to either raise prices, which can reduce demand, or absorb the costs, which is often unsustainable.

Additionally, the El Niño-induced drought exacerbates these difficulties by disrupting the supply of water and grain, essential for chicken farming. Water shortages can lead to poor sanitation and increased disease risk among the chickens, while reduced grain production drives up feed costs further. Women entrepreneurs, who often have limited access to credit and financial resources, find it especially hard to adapt to these conditions.

In Luanshya, where infrastructure and support services are limited, these challenges are even more pronounced. The combination of economic and environmental pressures requires innovative and resilient business strategies, yet access to training, resources, and support for women is often lacking. This underscores the need for targeted interventions to support women-led businesses in the face of these adversities, promoting financial literacy, access to microloans, and sustainable farming practices to ensure their survival and growth.

ODCEM ORGANIZATION FOCUSES NOT ONLY ON WOMEN ALONE BUT ALSO THE YOUNGER GENERATION OF ZAMBIA .

Eradicating poverty in our communities is our key focus through women empowerment funding programs to run sustainable farming projects.

We have financially empowered a good number of women in the selected communities of luanshya Town as our first stop center , we are so proud of the outcome so far ,our efforts to be a helping hand to the communities of Luanshya Town Zambia is a continuous process .

Our target is to empower as many women as we can so as to secure a poverty free younger generation in the Zambian communities, once we empower a woman we empower a whole generation, mothers play an important role in uniting and safeguarding the welfare of their families hence our focus to empower the woman and the younger generation .

Our children are in safe hands .
