*Kapoche Special School: A Beacon of Hope for Children with Diverse Abilities*
Kapoche Special School has been a sanctuary for children with diverse abilities since its construction in 2013 by the Luangwa Child Development Agency (LCDA) with support from ChildFund New Zealand. The school was handed over to the government in 2014 and has since experienced remarkable growth, increasing its enrollment from 47 to 87 pupils. Catering to students from early childhood education to grade 12, the school provides a nurturing environment for children with various needs, including those with physical disabilities, hearing impairments, visual impairments, learning disabilities, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD).
For over 12 years, LCDA, with generous support from ChildFund New Zealand, has played a vital role in ensuring these children access quality education. The organization's commitment to providing school fees and essential learning materials has been instrumental in empowering the pupils. The partnership has made a significant impact on the lives of the children, enabling them to thrive and reach their full potential.
Dianess Zulu, a grade 12 pupil who is deaf, shares her experience: "Kapoche Special School has been my home since grade 5. I've learned to read and understand better, and I'm grateful for the hope it has given me for a brighter future."
As Kapoche Special School looks to the future, the headteacher hopes to establish a skills center where pupils can acquire practical skills in areas such as carpentry, tailoring, plumbing, and construction. This initiative would empower them to become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The partnership between LCDA and ChildFund New Zealand has transformed the lives of Kapoche Special School's pupils. As we celebrate this success story, we look forward to continuing our support and empowering these young individuals to reach their full potential.
