Chimutengo Primary School
In 2015, Luangwa Child Development Agency (LCDA) partnered with ChildFund New Zealand to construct Chimutengo Primary School and was handed over to government, a model school of it's kind in Luangwa District. The school has transformed the lives of countless children, providing access to quality education and a brighter future.
Chimutengo Primary School was once a makeshift school where pupils met under a tree. Today, it's a thriving institution equipped with modern facilities, including a library, computer laboratory, home economics room, and art room. The school's water reticulation system ensures fresh, clean water for all students.
LCDA's commitment to education is unwavering. By keeping children in school, they're protected, gain confidence, and unlock opportunities to shape their own futures. Chimutengo Primary School is a testament to this vision, now with plans by government to upgrade Chimutengo primary to a secondary school in 2026.
The first grade 9 examination class at Chimutengo primary is a symbol of hope and resilience. These students, who once sat under a tree to learn, are now thriving in comfortable classrooms. Their stories inspire and motivate others to pursue their dreams.
Chimutengo Primary School is a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication, partnership, and a commitment to education. As LCDA continues to support vulnerable communities, stories like these will inspire and empower future generations.

Let's Unite for a Healthier Tomorrow

On this World AIDS Day, let's come together to support those living with HIV, spread awareness, and work towards a stigma-free world. While homeopathy isn't a replacement for HIV medical treatment, it can complement conventional care by boosting immunity, promoting emotional balance, reducing stress, and enhancing overall well-being.

We as LCDA stand to:

- Promote compassion and understanding for people living with HIV
- Encourage early testing and treatment
- Advocate for safe practices and prevention
- Respect the dignity of every individual affected by HIV

Together, we can create a supportive community that values health, love, and inclusivity. ๐Ÿ’š

Sustainable WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) practices help communities adapt to climate change, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation during droughts or floods.
In 2016, Luangwa Development Agency (LCDA) in partnership with Lusaka water successfully connected the people of Kamoba to a secure water source, eradicating the need to risk their lives fetching water from the crocodile-infested Luangwa River.
The initiative, supported by ChildFund New Zealand, brought clean and safe water to 563 households in 10 surrounding communities, benefiting approximately 3,414 community members. The installation of water pipes has transformed the lives of residents, who previously lived in fear of crocodile attacks.
"We are grateful for this life-changing intervention," said Grace Mwanza, a local resident. "The secured water source has saved lives and brought peace to our community. We can now access water safely, without fear of being attacked by crocodiles. It's a huge relief."
According to statistics from the Department of Wildlife, Luangwa District, crocodile attacks reduced significantly, from 16% to 0.5%, following the installation of the secure water source.
The LCDA's WASH program has made a lasting impact on the community for the past 9years by providing access to reliable water and improving overall health and well-being.
The LCDA remains committed to improving the lives of communities in Luangwa District and beyond, through initiatives like this WASH program.

Transforming Healthcare in Luangwa

Since its completion in 2022. Replacing the old, dilapidated facility, Sinyawagora Rural health centre has brought improved healthcare services to the community, addressing critical needs and saving lives.

The old health centre's poor condition forced women to travel long distances to Katondwe Mission Hospital for deliveries, most would shun away from it as it posed significant risks to their health and lives. The lack of essential amenities, including a proper maternity ward, exacerbated the challenges faced by the community.

Through a partnership between the Luangwa Child Development Agency (LCDA) and ChildFund New Zealand, the Sinyawagora Rural Health Centre was constructed and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The centre now serves over 2,988 community members, including 600 under-five children, providing:

- Improved access to quality healthcare services, including maternal and child health services
- Reduced risks associated with long-distance travel for deliveries
- Enhanced community resilience to seasonal challenges, such as impassable roads during the rainy season

The facility has recorded 229 safe deliveries from 2022 to October 2025 and has brought immense relief to the community. Jennifer Mumba, a trained volunteer, shares, "The new facility has brought massive relief to our community, with medicines readily available and staff always on standby... The maternity ward has made a significant difference in our lives."

The Sinyawagora Rural Health Centre demonstrates the power of collaboration and commitment to improving healthcare in Luangwa District. The partnership between LCDA and ChildFund New Zealand has:

- Improved healthcare outcomes for the community
- Enhanced community access to essential healthcare services
- Shown the impact of collaborative efforts in addressing critical healthcare needs.

As LCDA and ChildFund New Zealand continue to work together, we remain dedicated to improving the lives of communities in Luangwa District and beyond.

*Kapoche Special School: A Beacon of Hope for Children with Diverse Abilities*

Kapoche Special School has been a sanctuary for children with diverse abilities since its construction in 2013 by the Luangwa Child Development Agency (LCDA) with support from ChildFund New Zealand. The school was handed over to the government in 2014 and has since experienced remarkable growth, increasing its enrollment from 47 to 87 pupils. Catering to students from early childhood education to grade 12, the school provides a nurturing environment for children with various needs, including those with physical disabilities, hearing impairments, visual impairments, learning disabilities, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD).

For over 12 years, LCDA, with generous support from ChildFund New Zealand, has played a vital role in ensuring these children access quality education. The organization's commitment to providing school fees and essential learning materials has been instrumental in empowering the pupils. The partnership has made a significant impact on the lives of the children, enabling them to thrive and reach their full potential.

Dianess Zulu, a grade 12 pupil who is deaf, shares her experience: "Kapoche Special School has been my home since grade 5. I've learned to read and understand better, and I'm grateful for the hope it has given me for a brighter future."

As Kapoche Special School looks to the future, the headteacher hopes to establish a skills center where pupils can acquire practical skills in areas such as carpentry, tailoring, plumbing, and construction. This initiative would empower them to become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The partnership between LCDA and ChildFund New Zealand has transformed the lives of Kapoche Special School's pupils. As we celebrate this success story, we look forward to continuing our support and empowering these young individuals to reach their full potential.
