BACKGROUND

The National Legal Aid Clinic for Women (NLACW) was established in 1990 as a project under the Women's Rights Committee(WRC) of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ). LAZ is a body corporate with Perpetual succession and full legal status created under Act No.47 Chapter 31 of the Laws of Zambia. It is mandated inter-alia, to develop law as an instrument of social justice,encourage lawyer

s to serve the people, deal with legal aid and secure representation for the disadvantaged, promote law reform and in this regard co-operate with other institutions and professions. The Project was established to provide affordable legal aid to women and children from marginalized social sectors.These would usually not afford the normal legal costs to hire a lawyer to represent them in their pursuit of Justice. The Clinic works to help women, youth and children who have been victims of social injustice and prevent the decrease in their quality of life.This it does through legal redress, arbitration, mediation and advocacy through law reform. A Zambian society where underprivileged women and children have fair and equal access to legal rights through legal representation. OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The overral objective of the clinic is to empower women by facilitating their access to legal rights by way of legal representation, counselling, legal and human rights education as a distinct but integral part of the women's movement. OBJECTIVES
# To expand the clinic's programmes in order to have increased
representation of women and children, and reach some of the
needy areas not yet covered;
# To increase the capacity for the NLACW to deliver on the project
objectives and build sustainable capacity;
# To increase access to legal representation to marginalized women
and children;
# To enhance the capacity of women and children to fight for their

The National Legal Aid Clinic for Women together with Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is pleased to announce that we are exhibiting at the 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show, taking place from Wednesday, 29th July to Monday, 3rd August 2026 at the Lusaka Showgrounds, under the theme “Fostering Trade and Investment.”
Visit us at Stand No. 28, Jubilee Hall, conveniently located opposite the Main Arena.

As part of our commitment to promoting access to justice, we are offering FREE legal consultations from 1st to 3rd August 2026.

Members of the public are invited to visit our stand and engage with our team of legal practitioners for guidance on legal matters, understanding their rights, and accessing legal information.

This is Monica Chilongo from Kaloko in the Copperbelt Province. Monica is 77 years old and has been battling a land dispute for several years.

Eight years ago, Monica was faced with someone claiming her land. She says she would only be left with a very small area to farm on and almost gave up then. But with legal support from the National Legal Aid Clinic (NLACW), Monica was able to get legal support to resolve on a dispute on the land she has worked on since 1998.

Through the support from Sweden and other partners, the legal desk has aided her to take the issue to court, to claim her rights and to get justice.

A STAKEHOLDER MEETING TO REVIEW THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN 70TH SESSION AND DEVELOP ACTIONS FOR STRENGTHENING ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS.

In line with the NLACW mandate, NLACW with support from Sida, is convening a Stakeholder Meeting on access to Justice at The Urban Hotel,Lusaka today 3rd June, 2026.

The purpose of the meeting is ;

1.To review the recent recommendations from the Commission on the Status of Women 70th Session, held in New York City from 9th - 19th March, 2026.

2.To collaboratively develop actionable strategies to strengthen access to Justice for Women and girls in Zambia.

This is Martha Zimba from Kaloko, Zambia. Martha is a single mother with a six-year-old son.

Thanks to legal support from one of National Legal Aid Clinic for Women's community desks, Martha resolved a dispute around child support with the father of her son. She now shares the financial responsibility of her son with the father, which means she can afford to send her son to school.

With support from Sweden through NLACW, Martha accessed legal support in her local community and the legal desk helped communicate with the father and convinced him to pay for child support.
