🇿🇲 From Rural Zambia to a Regional Platform for Justice 🇰🇪⚖️
Rural Focus Zambia (RUFOZ) is proud to celebrate a remarkable achievement by our Deputy Executive Director, Richings Mwaba, who was selected to participate in the Training on Litigation of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Claims before National and Regional Mechanisms in Africa, organised by the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, held from 3–4 September 2026 at Golden Tulip Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.

This opportunity is even more significant considering that the selection was made from over 1,000 applications from across the region. 🇿🇲🌍

The journey of this selection reflects the power and impact of the HER Voice Fund and ViiV Healthcare in strengthening the capacity of grassroots organisations and leaders working to advance the rights and health of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).

Through the HER Voice Fund, RUFOZ has been empowered to amplify the voices of AGYW, strengthen advocacy, engage decision-makers and contribute to meaningful change in SRHR. This training now adds another important dimension — strategic litigation as a pathway to challenge systemic barriers and achieve lasting change.

We believe that when community voices are connected to evidence, advocacy and the law, they can transform systems.

The knowledge and skills gained from this training will strengthen RUFOZ's ability to contribute to strategic litigation, legal advocacy, policy reform and systemic change, particularly for AGYW and underserved communities in Zambia.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN POLITICS

🚨 WHAT IF THE PRICE OF POLITICAL PARTICIPATION IS SILENCE?

A woman decides to contest an election.
Suddenly, she receives threats.
She is harassed online.
She is intimidated at meetings.
Her character is attacked—not because of what she has done, but because she dared to enter the political space.

That is Violence Against Women in Elections (VAWE).

And here is the question we should all be asking:

👉 Should a woman have to choose between her safety and her right to participate in politics?

Absolutely NOT. ❌

Political violence against women doesn't only hurt individual women. It weakens democracy itself. When women are threatened into silence, communities lose voices, perspectives and leadership that could make a difference.

🎉 A Milestone Worth Celebrating for Rural Focus Zambia (RUFOZ)! 🎉

NOTE: THIS MEETING WAS GRACE BY THE COUNTRY DIRECTOR OF ACTION AID ZAMBIA.

We are deeply honored and grateful to have been selected among many organizations that applied for the Meaningful Youth Participation (MY PART) Project, funded by the European Union through ActionAid Zambia (AAZ).

As the grantee representing Northern Province, RUFOZ will implement the project titled:

"Enhancing Civic Participation in Governance and Accountability in Northern Province"

The project will focus on two key thematic areas:

✅ Advocacy and Good Governance
✅ Human Rights and Livelihoods

This one-year partnership presents an incredible opportunity to amplify youth voices, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and promote inclusive participation in governance and development processes.

We are pleased to share that RUFOZ has successfully completed a rigorous three-day onboarding and orientation meeting held at Grand Palace Hotel in Lusaka from 22nd-24th June 2026. Representing RUFOZ were Richings Mwaba, Deputy Executive Director, and Chibwe Kamanda, Programs Manager.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our Executive Director Mwenya, management, and the entire RUFOZ team for their mentorship, guidance, and unwavering oversight that continue to position our organization for growth and impact. Together, we remain committed to empowering communities, advancing human rights, and creating meaningful opportunities for young people to participate in shaping their future.

📢 RUFOZ Promotes Awareness on Violence Against Women in Elections (VAWE)

Rural Focus Zambia (RUFOZ) continues to raise awareness on the prevention of Violence Against Women in Elections (VAWE) through community sensitization and information dissemination. Through the distribution of information materials and the placement of awareness posters, communities are being empowered with knowledge on how to prevent, report, and respond to election-related violence against women.

Women and girls have the right to participate in political and electoral processes free from intimidation, harassment, discrimination, and violence. If you experience or witness Violence Against Women in Elections, support is available.
