📢 THE MOST IMPORTANT HEALTH QUESTION YOU CAN ASK YOURSELF

Do I know my HIV status?

Many young people know their phone number, favorite artist, and social media password—but do they know their HIV status?

Knowing your status is not about fear.

It's about:
✅ Taking responsibility for your health
✅ Making informed decisions
✅ Protecting your future
✅ Accessing support when needed

The good news is that HIV testing is:

✔️ Free
✔️ Quick
✔️ Confidential

At Youth Voices Against HIV (YVAH), we believe that knowledge is power. The first step toward protecting your future is knowing where you stand today.

💭 Let's talk:

What advice would you give to a friend who is afraid to get tested?

🤔 WHY DO MANY YOUNG PEOPLE AVOID HIV TESTING?

Despite HIV testing being free, quick, and confidential, many young people still avoid knowing their status.

Some fear the result.
Some worry about what others might think.
Some simply believe they are not at risk.

But the truth is this:

💡 Knowing your HIV status is an act of responsibility, not fear.

When you know your status, you can make informed decisions about your health, protect your future, and access support when needed.

At Youth Voices Against HIV (YVAH), we believe that information, awareness, and open conversations can help break the barriers that stop young people from taking control of their health.

📢 WE'RE BACK AND MOVfING FORWARD!

The past few weeks have been busy and productive for Youth Voices Against HIV (YVAH).

During this period, we successfully conducted our youth workshop, engaged young people through awareness activities, participated in community initiatives, and continued building a stronger movement for HIV awareness and prevention in Kasama District.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported, participated in, and believed in our mission. Every conversation, every awareness message, and every action brings us closer to a healthier and more informed generation.

As we move into June, we remain committed to empowering young people with accurate HIV information, fighting stigma, promoting prevention, and encouraging responsible choices.

💪 This is only the beginning.

Together, we will continue to educate, inspire, and empower.

📍 Follow our journey and invite others to join the conversation.

PEP
What is PEP?
Post- Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is a short 28 day course of HIV medication known as Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs). It should be taken within 72 hours (3 days) after possible exposure to HIV to prevent infection.

Who Can Use PEP?
PEP can be used by people who are HIV negative
And then you should also use PEP if:
1. Had unprotected s*x with someone whose HIV status is unknown.
2. Experienced s*xual assault or r**e
3. Had a condom break during s*x

Difference between PEP and PrEP
PrEP is a medicine taken before exposure to HIV to prevent the infection, while PEP is medicine taken after possible exposure to HIV to stop infection from starting.

Sometimes things happen unexpectedly- but you can still protect yourself. If you've had possible exposure to HIV, get PEP as soon as possible.

Note:
If you do not know your HIV status and you have been exposed to HIV as explained above, go to the nearest Health Facility Immediately.
