A New Chapter for Kabompo’s Local Governance
Kabompo Town Council today witnessed a significant milestone in local governance with the swearing-in of the Council Chairperson, Councillors, Chiefs and Members of Parliament, paving the way for their participation in Council proceedings.

The ceremony brought together local and national leaders, traditional leaders, Council Management, party officials and members of the public as the newly sworn-in leaders formally assumed their roles in accordance with the law.

Among those sworn in were Kabompo East Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Ambrose Lufuma and Kabompo West Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Hillary Chipango, whose inclusion in Council follows constitutional changes providing for Members of Parliament to sit in Council.

The occasion marks an important development in Kabompo’s local governance, bringing together elected representatives, traditional leadership and Council officials within the Council system to strengthen coordination, representation and participation in local development.

The swearing-in ceremony therefore represents not only the assumption of new responsibilities, but also a renewed opportunity for collaboration among different levels of leadership in advancing the development and wellbeing of the people of Kabompo.

KABOMPO STRENGTHENS DIGITAL INFORMATION MANAGEMENT THROUGH WEBSITE TRAINING

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) has commenced a five-day Local Authority Website Enhancement, District Information Portal Development and Community Socialisation Training in Solwezi, North-Western Province.

Speaking during the official opening, Senior Local Government Officer Mrs. Euridah Mahala Yowela emphasised the importance of effective communication, digital governance and information security in improving service delivery and maintaining public trust.

The training aims to strengthen the capacity of local authorities in website administration, content management, cybersecurity and digital governance, while transforming council websites into comprehensive District Information Portals that enhance transparency, accountability and citizen access to public information.

The programme brings together Principle officers, Public Relations Officers and ICT Officers from 10 local authorities in North-Western Province and Ndola City Council from Copperbelt Province.

Kabompo Town Council is among the participating local authorities in the training, which is expected to contribute to more accessible, transparent and responsive local governance through digital transformation.

ECZ MEETS ELIGIBLE POLITICAL PARTY IN KABOMPO TO ORIENT IT ON PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION SEATS

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Kabompo has held an orientation meeting with an eligible political party on the allocation, distribution and submission of Party Lists for Proportional Representation (PR) seats. The Commission explained that PR seats will be allocated to eligible political parties in proportion to the valid presidential votes obtained at national level, using a quota-based formula prescribed by law.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the political party to seek clarification and gain a common understanding of the PR process, including the requirements for submitting Party Lists. Kabompo District has been allocated three (3) PR seats—one for Youth, one for Women, and one for Persons with Disabilities.
