A major milestone for Eastern Visionary Youths as we partner with Chief Mnukwa to establish the Eastern Visionary Youths – Mnukwa Skills Training Center.

This initiative is more than a skills center — it is a safe space where adolescents and young people will access vocational skills, mentorship, entrepreneurship opportunities, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services.

Through support from the Hivos R-SRHR Fund, EVY has continued strengthening youth empowerment, community engagement, and sustainable solutions that address challenges such as teenage pregnancies, HIV, unemployment, GBV, and substance abuse.

The center will help build a future where young people are empowered economically, socially, and health-wise while also strengthening EVY’s long-term sustainability and community impact.

How do you approach a SRH Service Center without being shy?

Hey there, It can feel a bit heavy or even awkward to walk into a clinic when you feel like people might be judging you. But remember: taking care of your s*xual and reproductive health (SRH) is just as normal as seeing a doctor for a fever or a sports injury. It’s a boss move to take charge of your own well-being.

Anyway, here are some youth friendly ways to get the services you need while keeping your confidence high and the stigma low:

* Bring a Health Buddy: Everything is less intimidating with a friend. Grab a trusted mate and go together. You can even make a pact to support each other’s health check-ups. It makes the waiting room feel way more chill.

* Use Digital Front Doors: Many youth friendly centers now allow you to book appointments via WhatsApp, DM, or a website. This saves you from having to explain yourself at a front desk in front of other people. You just show up for your slot.

* Look for the Youth Corner: Seek out facilities that have dedicated "Youth Corners" or specific hours just for young people. These spots are usually staffed by counselors who are trained to be non-judgmental and speak your language.

* The Information First Approach: If you’re feeling shy, start by saying, I’m just here to get some brochures/information on topic. It’s a low-pressure way to get inside, get used to the environment, and realize the staff are there to help, not to lecture you.

* Call or Text a Hotline First: Before going in person, use a toll-free youth helpline. They can give you the exact location of the most stigma-free clinics in your area so you know you’re headed to a safe space.

* Focus on the Health Aspect: If you run into someone you know, you don't owe them a detailed life story. A simple, Just doing a routine health check is a perfectly complete answer. Your health is your business.

* Visit Integrated Clinics: Sometimes it’s easier to go to a center that offers many different services (like general check-ups, dental, or sports physicals) alongside SRH. That way, nobody knows exactly why you are there.

Always remember: You have a right to accurate information and healthcare without feeling ashamed. The people working in these centers have seen and heard it all they aren't there to judge your choices; they're there to make sure you stay safe and healthy.

Let us know what you can do when feeling shy is keeping you from accessing SRH services in the comments below...

Breaking the silence around Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) is about more than just medical facts; it is about reclaiming our right to holistic wellbeing, safety, and informed choices. This campaign is designed to strip away the "dirty" labels and taboos, replacing judgment with agency and maturity. Whether it is understanding your body’s natural cycles or navigating the boundaries of a healthy relationship, knowing the truth is the ultimate way to fight stigma and support one another. By choosing facts over myths, we empower ourselves and our peers to take charge of our futures with confidence and respect.

What is SRH?
Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system. It ensures individuals can have a safe, satisfying s*x life, the capability to reproduce, and the freedom to decide if, when, and how often to do so.

SRH is more than just s*x, it encompasses a wide range of services, information, and care, including:
* Family Planning & Contraception: Access to counseling and safe, affordable contraceptive methods.
* Maternal & Newborn Health: Care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, including antenatal and postnatal care.
* STI/HIV Prevention and Care: Prevention, testing, and treatment of s*xually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.
* Sexual Health Services: Information and education on s*xuality, along with treatment for s*xual dysfunction.
* Reproductive Health Services: Management of infertility, gynecological health, and cervical cancer screening.
* Safe Abortion Care: Information on and access to safe termination of pregnancy and post-abortion care.
* Prevention of Violence: Addressing s*xual and gender-based violence and harmful practices like female ge***al mutilation.

Knowledge = Power

Today, Eastern Visionary Youths held its first adolescent awareness meeting in Kasenengwa District. EVY Change Agents from Kasenengwa Health Post engaged adolescents on the importance of accessing SRH services, preventing teenage pregnancies, addressing GBV, substance abuse, and promoting mental health.

The meeting also focused on solutions, encouraging young people to seek health services, speak out against violence, avoid substance abuse, prioritize mental well-being, and make informed decisions for a healthier future.

We continue to speak out, we continue to influence change among young people for a better future

EVY CONTINUES TO CHAMPION SRH IN MNUKWA CHIEFDOM

Eastern Visionary Youths in Mnukwa Chiefdom, Chipangali District had the privilege of bringing together parents, adolescents, and community members for an open community dialogue on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).

The conversations were honest, educational, and inspiring, creating a safe space where both young people and parents could freely share experiences, concerns, and ideas on how we can work together to build a healthier and safer future for adolescents in our communities.

The dialogue focused on the importance of communication between parents and young people, access to accurate SRH information, protection of adolescents, and the role communities play in guiding and supporting youths as they grow. It was encouraging to see community members actively participating and showing commitment towards creating positive change.

As Eastern Visionary Youths, we believe that empowering adolescents with knowledge and creating platforms for open conversations is key to reducing challenges such as teenage pregnancies, STIs, early marriages, and other issues affecting young people today.

We sincerely appreciate Chief Mnukwa, parents, adolescents, community leaders, and everyone who participated in the dialogue and contributed their voices and experiences. Together, we can continue building informed, confident, and empowered communities for the next generation.
