The repetitive policy implemented by certain schools in Eastern Province is commendable in principle, but its ex*****on is flawed. As an organisation, our observations indicate that this policy is not yielding benefits for learners; rather, it is being utilised to infringe upon and violate pupils' rights. Schools are compelling children to repeat a grade, regardless of their preference, solely due to unsatisfactory performance. This approach is misguided, as it contravenes human rights, which educational institutions should respect. Notably, this policy lacks government sanction, and the Ministry of Education advocates for inclusive practices, stipulating that no child should be held back in the same grade due to poor performance, except in examination classes. Alternative educational pathways, such as GCE and vocational training institutions, offer learners opportunities to acquire skills and earn a living. Our findings suggest that numerous pupils forced to repeat a grade drop out of school due to stigma, while others become parents at a young age, engage in criminal activities, or pose a threat to public safety. We have engaged with local authorities, including the DEBS, DESO, and the district board, to address this pressing matter. As an organisation, we respectfully request the indulgence of the district board team. As an organisation we urge the public to be one's watchman to ensure human rights are respected.
