WORK HARD TO EAT 🌱
The Bible encourages us to work diligently, reminding us that “the one who is unwilling to work shall not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
The Kalama community in Gwembe District has chosen not to wait for handouts. Instead, they are applying themselves to producing nutritious crops for their households while generating income, with the use of their improved (Solar powered) water facility by NOCAD supported by NCA-DCA
In the video, one community member proudly displays part of their garden, a powerful example of self-reliance, hard work, and climate-resilient livelihoods.

CHIKOLONTO – A NEW DAWN 🌱
Zambia is known for its rich cultural festivities, which attract people of all ages. People take their positions to enjoy the vibrant activities and celebrations taking place in the arena.
But today, the story captured in these pictures tells a different story.
In the isolated community of Chikolonto, deep in rural Gwembe District, community members are taking their own positions, not as spectators, but as agents of change, working together to transform the future of their community.
Embracing innovative Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), community members are getting hands-on in constructing rock, check dams, gabions, and other groundwater recharge structures designed to slow runoff, reduce land degradation, improve water infiltration, and strengthen community resilience.
Supported by NCA-DCA in partnership with NOCAD, these community-led actions are changing more than the landscape. They are changing mindsets, building confidence, and creating hope.
Chikolonto is singing a new song, a song of resilience, ownership, and hope for a better tomorrow. 🌿💧

Congratulations, President elect HH
The NOCAD team extends its heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, on his re-election as President of the sovereign Republic of Zambia following the General Elections held on 13 August 2026.
As you embark on another mandate to lead our nation, we wish you wisdom, courage and strength.
A great deal lies ahead in healing, uniting, developing, and building a more resilient Zambia.
Of particular concern is the forecast impending El Niño for the 2026-2027 rain season, which is likely to have significant implications for rain-fed crop production, livestock pasture and hydropower generation. We look forward to seeing and participating with the new administration on navigating these challenges while safeguarding livelihoods and strengthening the resilience of our communities and the nation.
Our prayers are with you. May God grant you wisdom, discernment and strength as you lead Zambia through the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Tough times call for bold and practical solutions.
For generations, the people of Chikolonto Community in Gwembe District have watched millions of litres of rainwater rush down the surrounding mountains through seasonal streams, disappearing without replenishing the underground aquifers that sustain life.
The partnership between NCA-DCA and NOCAD has brought renewed hope through innovative, nature-based solutions that seek to harness every precious drop of rainwater.
Today, community members are working together to collect stones and construct check dams. These simple but effective structures slow the flow of water, allowing it to seep into the ground and recharge groundwater reserves. The result is improved access to water for household gardens, livestock, and a more climate-resilient future.
This is more than building check dams—it's about restoring hope, strengthening livelihoods, and empowering communities to adapt to climate change using locally available resources.

Household Preparedness as El Niño Looms
Zambia has been blessed with two consecutive favorable rain seasons, resulting in good harvests and improved food production. The 2025/2026 agricultural season has also performed well, with the country expected to record improved millions of tones of rain-fed crop production.
However, forecasts of a possible El Niño during the 2026/2027 rain season serve as an important reminder that every household should prepare today for tomorrow's uncertainties. Climate change continues to challenge our farming systems (crop and livestock), making proactive planning essential for household food security.
As Team NOCAD, we encourage all households to preserve and store sufficient maize and other food crops to sustain their families for at least two agricultural seasons. Proper storage and careful management of food stocks can help families remain resilient during periods of poor rainfall or drought.
Equally important is the prudent use and conservation of available water. Every drop counts.
Preparedness is not about fear, it is about resilience.
By planning ahead, safeguarding our harvests, and managing our natural resources responsibly, we can protect our families and communities from the impacts of future climate shocks.
Let's act today to secure tomorrow. Let no one be left behind. Together, we can build resilient households and stronger communities.

We kicked off our capacity-building session today as part of our ongoing commitment to organizational growth and system strengthening. Ms. Lungu of NCA-DCA through the JCP Zambia country office is facilitating the workshop, guiding members of team NOCAD through key processes and approaches aimed at enhancing organizational systems, effectiveness, and performance.
Together, we are investing in stronger systems, stronger teams, and greater impact for the communities we serve.
