The Township Bio-Circular Economy Pilot Initiative was launched at the Future of Sustainability Conference this week.
On Wednesday a multistakeholder discussion on "Transforming Waste into Energy, Food & Jobs" held among some of the project partners (Sustainable Organic Urban Lifestyle (SOUL), Pan-African Financing for Development Institute (PAFDI), City of Johannesburg, Mpact Limited, Madam Waste, University of Johannesburg) offered insights and lessons learned into building economic resilience, advancing social inclusion, promoting energy and food security through "ecopreneurship" skills development and climate-friendly technologies to marginalised urban communities.
Throughout the conference, the Itsoseng Young Ecologists Coop manned the project stand, that captured the interest of Deputy Minister from Department of Water and Sanitation, and many business sector partners who will be supporting the community as it moves forward with the innovative waste recycling, biogas systems and urban agriculture activities.
