Emthonjeni Wokuphila Community Development Center Emthonjeni Wokuphila Community Development Center (EWCDC): "The fountain of life" Nurturing Hearts and Minds with Holistic Christian Care.

EWCDC is a registered NPO & PBO based in KwaMhlanga, empowering children, youth and families through ECD, after-care, skills development, food security, agriculture, psychosocial support and community development since 2004. At EWCDC, we are deeply committed to providing comprehensive care to approximately 80 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) within our center, and an additional 37 in the fie

ld. Our mission goes far beyond offering daily meals and a secure place to play; we are dedicated to fostering the holistic development of each child.

- **Education Enrichment**: As part of our after-school program, we assist these young minds with their homework, nurturing a love for learning and academic success.

- **Individualized Care**: Every child entrusted to us has their own unique file, meticulously documenting their needs, aspirations, and progress. We are currently developing individualized care plans to tailor our support to each child's specific circumstances.

- **Health and Well-Being**: We provide fundamental healthcare, spiritual guidance, and psycho-social support not only for the OVCs but also for their families. Our aim is to enhance the overall well-being of our beneficiaries and empower them to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

- **Community Collaboration**: To achieve our mission, we engage with local community members and collaborate with various stakeholders, including churches, government agencies, and schools. Together, we form a network of care and support that amplifies our impact.

- **Community-Led Initiative**: EWCDC is deeply rooted in our local community, guided by a board of nine dedicated members representing five local churches. Our work is not just about providing services; it's about building a stronger, more compassionate community.

- Over the past decade, we have worked tirelessly, offering compassionate personal care to our beneficiaries. We firmly believe that our efforts have transformed lives and made a meaningful impact.

- In addition to our direct services, we also advocate for justice, especially for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Our mission is to create a brighter, more equitable future for all. Thank you for being part of our journey, and together, we continue to sow seeds of hope, love, and positive change.

🧠❤️🎡🖐️🦶 UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF: IQ • EQ • EMOTIONAL WELLNESS • REFLEXOLOGY

True wellbeing involves understanding and caring for the mind, emotions and body. These areas influence how we learn, respond to challenges, relate to others and take care of ourselves.

🧠 IQ – INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT
IQ focuses on our ability to think, learn and solve problems. It includes reasoning, memory, concentration, language, understanding and problem-solving.

👉 IQ asks: “How well can I THINK?”

❤️ EQ – EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
EQ is our ability to recognise, understand and manage emotions, while also understanding and responding appropriately to the emotions of others.

It includes:
🔹 Self-awareness
🔹 Emotional regulation and self-control
🔹 Empathy and compassion
🔹 Communication
🔹 Managing anger, frustration and disappointment
🔹 Building healthy relationships

👉 EQ asks: “How well can I understand and manage MYSELF and relate to OTHERS?”

🎡 THE EMOTIONAL WHEEL – NAME WHAT YOU FEEL

Sometimes anger may be covering hurt, rejection, disappointment or fear. The Emotional Wheel helps us identify emotions more clearly.

😊 Happy → joyful, proud, confident
😢 Sad → lonely, hurt, disappointed
😡 Angry → irritated, frustrated, resentful
😨 Afraid → worried, nervous, insecure
😲 Surprised → amazed, confused, curious
🤢 Disgusted → uncomfortable, rejecting

Learning to identify and name our emotions is an important part of developing emotional intelligence and healthier ways of responding.

🖐️🦶 HAND & FOOT REFLEXOLOGY

Traditional reflexology associates different areas of the hands and feet with different parts of the body:

🧠 Toes/Fingertips → Head & sinus areas
🫁 Ball of foot/Upper palm → Chest & lungs
❤️ Left upper areas → Heart
🍽️ Arch/Centre of palm → Digestive areas
🦴 Inner edges → Spine & back
🚻 Heel/Lower palm → Pelvic & bladder areas

Reflexology involves applying controlled pressure and massage techniques to these areas, primarily to support relaxation and general wellbeing.

⚠️ Reflexology is a complementary wellness practice. Its traditional organ maps should not be used to diagnose medical conditions or replace professional healthcare.

🌿 WHOLE-PERSON WELLNESS

🧠 IQ — Develop how you THINK
❤️ EQ — Understand how you FEEL, RESPOND & RELATE
🎡 Emotional Wheel — IDENTIFY and NAME your emotions
🖐️🦶 Reflexology — Support RELAXATION and general wellbeing

✨ Know your mind. Understand your emotions. Care for your body.

📌 REMEMBER:
A POLICY explains WHAT the centre expects and requires.
A PROCEDURE explains HOW it must be implemented.

Policies should not simply sit in a file gathering dust. Staff should be inducted and trained on them, and important policies should be reviewed, approved, dated and implemented.

‼️ PLEASE NOTE: This is a basic ECD compliance and good-governance guide, not an exhaustive legal checklist. Requirements can differ depending on the ECD programme, registration status, services offered and municipality.

⚠️ Don't wait until an official announces an inspection before organising your centre.

🌱 QUALITY ECD =
❤️ Child Protection
📚 Quality Learning
🩺 Health & Safety
👩🏽‍🏫 Professional Staff
📂 Proper Administration
💰 Financial Accountability
🤝 Strong Parent Partnerships
⚖️ Compliance & Good Governance

Our children deserve ECD Centres that are safe, organised, accountable and professionally managed.
