God always shows up
Last night as we gave out soup in Westenburg, Polokwane, a gentleman approached us for a cup.
The soup we serve is free. We do not charge.
In his state he wanted to pay and could not understand that it was for free.
"This is all I have, please let me pay"
We refused to take it. He placed it on the table.
God provides he said.

It reminded me of the many stories in the Bible where people gave their last. Their last food, their last monies, their last water, their last oil.

Often True generosity begins when comfort ends and personal sacrifice starts. It's how you give, not what you give.

It's like the story is of the Widow's Offering in Mark 12:41-44 and Luke 21:1-4.
The Story
Jesus sat near the temple treasury as people put money into the collection box. Many rich people gave large amounts of money. A poor widow walked up and dropped in two tiny copper coins (called mites or lepta), which were worth only a fraction of a penny. Jesus called his disciples over to teach them a lesson. He said the poor widow gave more than all the others combined.The rich people gave out of their extra wealth, but she gave everything she had to live on.

The Lesson
God does not measure a gift by its physical size or money value.God looks at the heart of the giver and the sacrifice behind the act.True generosity means giving with love and trust, even when it costs you dearly.

This was our blessing last night.
