Dog Excrement in Town and Other Public Spaces

George Municipality requires that all dog owners and persons in control of dogs to responsible for the removal of the animal's faeces in any public space, including the forest, mountain paths, Garden Route dam area and public parks.

In terms of Regulation 4.11(a) & (b) of the By-law relating to the Regulations of the Keeping of Dogs and Cats and Other Animals.

a) Dog owners to immediately remove dog excrement and place it in a plastic bag or wrapper and dispose of it in a designated rubbish bin.

b) Dog owners, excluding those with guide dogs, must carry a suitable number of bags in which to place dog excrement when walking dogs in public.
Members of the public will be fined for non-compliance.

We encourage all residents and visitors to clean up after their pets to improve the nature and clean town experience for everyone.

THE RAIN HAS LANDED 🌧️

The Garden Route has some funky weather lined up for the week ahead and after the storms we’ve already had earlier this year , our trails have taken a serious beating.

We’ve worked hard to get them repaired and back in shape, but wet trails are incredibly vulnerable. A few bikes, vehicles or even heavy foot traffic can cause a whole lot of damage in a very short space of time.💪🏽

So please, if it’s raining or the trails are wet, give them a miss. Wait it out. Let the trails dry properly and give them the chance to recover.☔️🌧️

We’re heading into a very busy season and we want to keep these trails open, rideable and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.☀️

Unfortunately someone is already vandalizing trail signage. These are for everyone's safety and placed only on purpose built MTB trails. Signs also help warn other trail users to just take extra care on these sections when they are on them and listen out for riders coming at speed. Flow direction is only intended for riders and it's often safer for a hiker to go against the flow so they can move off track faster.
Please keep a lookout for vandals so we can educate them. Certain areas will now be monitored to get a photo of who is responsible and make them pay for replacements.

Elephant bath has been upgraded with a new trail right past the water. Thanks to the funding that came in from Cresta Wheelers.
You will now take a left and meander down past the bath instead of the old straight line down.
