Thatโs right, you can now walk into our kennels, choose an animal, and take them home ๐๐ค๐ง ๐๐ง๐๐.
No adoption fee. No cost to you. Just pick your new pet and give them a second chance at life.
This way, we can rehome more animals.
This way, fewer animals will be euthanised.
This way, everyone wins.
Many of you told us our R1100 adoption fee is too expensive.
You said this is why animals donโt get adopted.
We listened.
So we have removed the adoption fee completely.

In terms of the SPCA Act 169 of 1993, all animals rehomed by an SPCA must be:
โข Sterilised
โข Vaccinated
โข Dewormed
โข Microchipped
โข Subject to a compulsory home inspection
But donโt worry, you donโt have to pay us anything.
All you need to do is:
1. Choose your animal
2. Tell us which veterinary practice you prefer
3. Pay the veterinarian directly for the required procedures (upfront)

Sterilisation for a female cat - R1605 and for a male cat - R1080
Sterilisation for a female dog - R2045 to R2495 (depending on weight/size of the dog) and for a male dog - R2080

Deworming for a cat R50 and a dog R72,50 per tablet (depending on weight/size of the dog)
Microchip - R495
Total for a small female dog:- R2045 + R680 + R72.50 + R495 = R3,292.50
Veterinary Practice 2:
Sterilisation for a female cat - R2210 and for a male cat - R1480
Sterilisation for a female dog - R2700 to R3150 (depending on weight/size of the dog) and for a male dog - R2210
Vaccination for a cat or a dog R640
Deworming for a cat R45 and a dog R64
Microchip - R432
Total for a small female dog: R2700 + R640 +R64 + R432 = R3,836
Veterinary Practice 3:
Sterilisation for a female cat - R1700 and for a male cat - R1300
Sterilisation for a female dog - R2100 to R2500 (depending on weight/size of the dog) and for a male dog - R1700 to 2000 (depending on weight/size of the dog)
Vaccination for a cat or dog - R440
Deworming for a cat R58 and a dog R70 per tablet (depending on the dogs weight)
Microchip - R370
Total for a small female dog: R2100 + R440 +R70 + R370 = R2,980
Veterinary Practice 4:
Sterilisation for a female cat - R1290 and for a male cat - R825
Sterilisation for a female dog - R1600 to R2080 (depending on weight/size of the dog) and for a male dog - R1350
Vaccination for a cat or dog - R570
Deworming for a cat R53 and a dog R72 per tablet (depending on the dogs weight)
Microchip - R265
Total for a small female dog: R1600 + R570 + 72 + 265 = R2,507

Over the past two weeks, our SPCA has been under attack.
Weโve been called killers.
Accused of only caring about money.
Told we make adoption โtoo difficult.โ
Even mocked when one of our branches had to close due to lack of support.
Our staff, people who dedicate their lives to animals, have been verbally abused.
And yet, very few people are asking the real question:
Why are there so many animals in the first place?

We receive over 8000 unwanted and stray animals every year.
We have 80 kennels.
Do the math.
We physically cannot keep them all.
Not because we donโt want to.
Because it would be cruel and inhumane.

Letโs not sugarcoat it.
We do.
Not because we want to.
Not because we get paid to.
(Not that ridiculous rumour that we get paid per carcassโฆ)
We euthanise because:
โข There are not enough homes
โข There is not enough space
โข There are not enough resources
And because someone has to make the hardest decision, so that animals do not suffer.

When Milla, an old, blind, frail dog, came in, the internet exploded.
People were outraged that she might be euthanised.
Suddenly, everyone cared.
And yes, she found a home.
But what about the thousands of others?
Why do they not get the same attention?
Why do they die quietly, without anyone caring?
