Don’t leave your dog to die alone!! So, I heard this story from a friend who works at a vet clinic, and it really hit me hard.
They’re feeling pretty overwhelmed with how often people are dropping off their dogs to be euthanized. It’s tough because, while saying goodbye is super hard for us, it’s even worse for the dogs. They’re already scared and confused, and the last thing they want is to be alone in a place they don’t understand, especially when they’re looking for their owners in their final moments.
Just the other day, this woman brought in her 13-year-old dog to be put to sleep, but the vet was out on farm calls and wouldn’t be back until late in the day. Instead of waiting, she insisted on leaving her dog there all alone for hours, saying she was too busy to come back. My friend ended up spending the day with the dog, taking her for a little walk, and even treating her to a cheeseburger and donut. They laid on the floor together, comforting her while she was scared and confused.
When the time finally came, my friend was there to hold her, telling her she was a good girl. But the heartbreaking part was that the dog’s eyes were always searching for her family. It really drives home the point that dogs know what’s happening, and it’s so important to be there for them in those moments. It might be tough, but being there when they cross that bridge can make all the difference. Post borrowed.
