Building Communities Through Ubuntu

Lefika la Ka recently hosted a powerful two-day induction and onboarding programme for our new community volunteers at the Khuma Transnet Community Centre—a space we proudly call home.

As a resident organisation, Lefika la Ka continues to thrive through meaningful collaboration with Kgorogo Social Investment, the dedicated centre leads who play a vital role in creating an enabling environment for community-driven impact.
The induction was a humbling and inspiring experience, grounded in the true spirit of Ubuntu—“I am because we are.” It was encouraging to witness individuals willing to sacrifice their time and energy in service of others.

We are proud to welcome 7 committed volunteers who will be deployed across communities in Dr Kenneth Kaunda (Dr KK) and Ngaka Modiri Molema (NMM) Districts, strengthening our reach and deepening our impact.

During the two days, the team engaged with:
✨ The vision and mission of Lefika la Ka
✨ The impaat4HIV programme objectives
✨ A clear understanding of roles and responsibilities
✨ The core values that guide our work in communities

This onboarding was more than just an introduction—it was about building alignment, fostering purpose, and igniting a shared commitment to community transformation.

As our new volunteers begin their journey, we are confident they will embody the values of compassion, dignity, and service.

💙 Together, with partners like Kgorogo Social Investment, we continue to make a lasting difference—one community at a time.

LEFIKA LA KA TAKES HIV, TB AND STI AWARENESS TO NORTH WEST PLATINUM TV

Lefika La Ka Director Ms. Rose Mokoto, joined by two peer educators, visited North West Platinum TV to promote awareness on HIV, Advanced HIV Disease (AHD), TB, and STIs. The interview followed World TB Day, reinforcing the importance of early testing, prevention, and treatment—especially for people living with HIV.

Supported by UNITAID, the Aurum Institute, PATA, and Matchboxology, the programme also uses a Community Connector booklet developed through a Human-Centred Design approach to improve linkage to care.

Ms. Mokoto emphasized that HIV and TB are manageable when diagnosed early and called on communities to fight stigma, encourage testing, and support treatment adherence. Peer educators shared real experiences and challenged myths that prevent young people from seeking help.

“Young people are powerful agents of change… we all have a role to play in ending HIV and TB,” she said.

The discussion also highlighted barriers such as stigma, fear of judgment, and lack of information. Partnerships with media platforms like North West Platinum TV help reach wider audiences and promote open conversations.

**This initiative aims to:**

* Address misinformation
* Reduce stigma
* Encourage testing and treatment
* Strengthen community knowledge
