From being a pupil who benefited from the Carmen Stevens Foundation’s food program at Macassar Primary School to becoming a teacher at that very same school, Mr Blauw’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of a meal and the hope it can bring.💚🍽️

Mr Blauw believes that the food program contributed to his hope and success in life. Today, 55% of the children in his class are also benefiting from the program, and he hopes it will give them the same opportunity to grow, learn and build a brighter future.

His journey reminds us why it is so important for the food program to continue. Every meal matters, every child matters, and every opportunity to learn brings hope for a better tomorrow.

On 16 October, we celebrated World Food Day 🌍🍽️

Deidré Vermeulen from the Carmen Stevens Foundation shares her perspective on the importance of World Food Day and the Foundation’s visit to Huis Ebenhaeser, an old age home in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch.

During the visit, the team spent meaningful time with the residents and donated fresh vegetables and non-perishable food items as a gesture of care and support.

For us, fighting hunger goes beyond providing food. It is about restoring dignity, showing compassion and reminding people that they are seen, valued and cared for. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a difference. ❤️

On 16 October, in celebration of World Food Day and this year’s theme, “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow,” the Carmen Stevens Foundation visited Huis Ebenhaeser in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch.

We had the privilege of spending time with the residents and donating fresh vegetables and non-perishable food items to support the home and its residents.

At the Carmen Stevens Foundation, we believe that meaningful change begins with small acts of kindness. Together, we can help build a future where everyone has access to nutritious food and no one is forgotten.

A Foundation Phase teacher shares the reality of poverty among her young learners, aged just 5 to 6 years old.

Of the 30 children in her Grade R classroom, 25 rely on the school feeding programme. That is more than 80% of her class. 💚

At this crucial stage of development, children need more than education. They need nourishment, care and the opportunity to grow holistically.

For these little learners, a nutritious meal makes a meaningful difference to their school day. 💚

For the past five years, the Carmen Stevens Foundation has been making a lasting impact in the lives of children in South Africa.💚🇿🇦

🍽️ 35.2 million meals served
🍛 134,000 children received two nutritious meals every school day
🚛 4,506 tons of food distributed
🌽 15 essential food products provided
🏫 566 schools reached

Behind every number is a child who was able to start their school day with a full stomach, greater energy and the opportunity to focus, learn and grow.

There are 36 children in her class. Of those, 20 are part of the Carmen Stevens Foundation’s food programme, meaning more than half of her class rely on it. 🍽️💚

For this teacher, the programme is about so much more than a meal.

Without it, she says she would struggle with discipline. Her children wouldn’t be as alert in Maths, they would struggle to focus during Languages, and they wouldn’t have the same energy in PE.

Many of the children at her school don’t have a lot, and for some, coming to school means knowing they will have something to eat. 🍽️

Every Friday, she finds herself worrying about what those 20 children will eat over the weekend. But when Monday comes, she knows they will be back at school and they will have something to eat. 💚

The food programme gives these children more than nourishment. It gives them the opportunity to focus, participate, learn and reach their potential. 🌱💚

Because sometimes, something as simple as a meal can make all the difference. 🍽️💚
