Umsebenzi Wethu Foundation commemorated Human Rights Day/Month with the Residents of Enkanini Area (the Informal settlement in Bonela (Ethekwini Ward 30).

Umsebenzi Wethu Foundation commemorated Human Rights Day/Month in a variety of ways. Annually, South Africa declares the 21st of March a public holiday – Human Rights Day – to remind us of the sacrifices many made in the struggle for democracy. South Africans are encouraged to observe human rights throughout March.

Speaking during the one-day workshop, the Chairperson of the Umsebenzi Wethu Foundation; Mrs Sinegugu Zuma said that rights are entitlements or freedoms, while responsibilities are duties or obligations, and both are essential for a functioning society. She also emphasised that understanding both is crucial for being a responsible and engaged member of a community. “Human rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings - they are not granted by any state. These universal rights are inherent to us all.”, Zuma said
