(1) To encourage and participate in the preservation of the history and heritage of the Magaliesberg region. (2) To create awareness of and provide information about the rich history and heritage of the Magaliesberg region, both to people within South Africa and internationally. (3) To promote the development of heritage tourism in the Magaliesberg region, with resulting economic development and the creation of job opportunities for members of communities in the area. (4) To promote and obtain funding for the production of art works with a connection to the history and culture of the Magaliesberg region. In 2018, Mogale Arts received generous funding from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC). This funding has enabled Mogale Arts to accomplish the following objectives:
(1) Production of a memorial to Emily Back, heroine of the Battle of Koster River (22 July 1900). The memorial (which houses a sculpture of Emily Back) stands next to the Pieter Kruger Farmhouse on Paul Kruger's farm Boekenhoutfontein. (2) Renovation of the Old Schoolroom at Boekenhoutfontein, so that it can be used as a venue for training guides who can conduct heritage tours in the Magaliesberg region. The Old Schoolroom will also be used as a venue for giving presentations about Magaliesberg history and heritage to school children and other tour groups. (3) Production of a training manual to be used for the training of site and tourist guides in the Magaliesberg region. (4) Production of a book titled "Guide to the Museums and Monuments of the Western Magaliesberg Region". (5) Printing of copies of the map titled "South African War (Anglo-Boer War) 1899 - 1902: Battlefields of the Greater Magaliesberg Area". The National Lotteries Commission has also provided funding for marketing, and we are delighted that this has enabled us to launch a page and Instagram account for Mogale Arts.
