Walking Their Own Path – One Step at a Time 👟📚

In collaboration with Out the Box, we’re proud to support one of their many life-changing initiatives—a Literacy Programme, which launched this term with the theme: "All About Me."

As the children arrived, they did so wearing the brand-new shoes donated by GraySwan—a small symbol of dignity, confidence, and care. But this programme is about far more than just new beginnings.

This term, the children will explore:
🔹 Their identity and personal journey
🔹 Foundational topics like biology, hygiene, and responsibility
🔹 And the program will assist the kids with birth certificates and IDs if they don't have

Because every child deserves to know who they are, to be seen, and to have the tools to build their own future. Whether it’s through education, life skills, or simply feeling proud of the shoes on their feet, we believe in walking alongside them—step by step.

Investing in Hope, One Step at a Time.

GraySwan was honoured to support Ons Nessie’s recent anti-bullying event in Macassar by donating shoes and school bags to children in need.

Held at the Old Civic Centre on April 3rd, the event was more than just a program—it was a movement. Through powerful workshops, inspirational stories, and practical tools, Ons Nessie is building a safer, kinder community where every child feels seen, valued, and protected.

Making a Difference: GraySwan Charitable Trust & Walk with a Purpose

At GraySwan, we believe in giving back and uplifting communities, and we are incredibly proud to support initiatives that create meaningful change.

When Natalie Ngonelo’s son, who is participating in a Grade 7 leadership program, began volunteering at the Yondla Abalambiley Foundation in Macassar, he reached out to the GraySwan Charitable Trust to request shoes—a request we were honored to fulfill.

On Saturday, March 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day, the foundation hosted an event to empower survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). The event focused on:

🔹 Equipping women with an escape plan
🔹 Providing a self-defense class
🔹 Offering a care bag with essential items for those ready to take the next step toward safety

As part of restoring dignity to every attendee, the event included a symbolic foot-washing ceremony, after which each woman was gifted a brand-new pair of shoes—a simple but powerful reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported.

💙 We are humbled to have played a small role in this initiative and will continue to support communities in meaningful ways.

Walk with Purpose, Changing Lives

We believe in making a real difference—one step at a time. Last week, alongside the incredible Jevcomm Community Project, we had the privilege of handing out brand-new school shoes to the learners of AF Louw Primary School in Stellenbosch. 👞✨

Seeing the joy and excitement on their faces as they proudly put on their new shoes reminded us of the power of community, kindness, and opportunity. For many, these shoes represent more than just comfort—they symbolize confidence, dignity, and a brighter future.

GraySwan is honored to have donated shoes to support "Out the Box" in their amazing work with Pastor Philimon and his NPO, "Uplifting Others."

At their recent event, homeless individuals were welcomed with dignity and respect, and we’re proud that our shoe donation will help many "Walk with a Purpose."

Spreading Joy One Step at a Time

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Swartland Izihlangu Factory for their generous donation to the GraySwan Charitable Trust.

Thanks to your incredible support, we were able to bring smiles and excitement to the children at Danie Ackerman Primary School in Somerset West by gifting them brand-new pairs of flip-flops!

The joy on their faces was truly heartwarming, and it’s moments like these that remind us of the impact we can make when we come together to support our communities.

Celebrating Empowerment: Marriage Seminar in Khayelitsha

In closing of Women's Month, the GraySwan Charitable Trust hosted a Marriage Seminar on the 30th of August in Khayelitsha. With over 200 women in attendance, this event aimed to empower and support women in making informed decisions before entering into marriage.

Key topics covered included:
Types of Marriages in South Africa: Civil Union, Customary, Muslim & Customary (Presented by the Department of Home Affairs)
Understanding Marriage Regimes: Community of Property vs. Out of Community of Property (Presented by Probono)
Health and Well-being: Addressing sexual health issues and providing essential health services such as HIV testing and blood pressure screenings (City Health)
Role of the Church: Encouraging personal choice in marriage and the church's role in providing pre-marital counseling (Bishop Nyembezi).

The event concluded with the distribution of 200 pairs of new shoes to the women, thanks to your generous support. Together, we are fostering a community where every woman is empowered and equipped with the knowledge to make life-changing decisions.

We had the honour of hosting an incredible event focused on empowering and supporting women in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to the 100 amazing women who joined us, identified by our dedicated local stakeholders committed to community development. Together, we celebrated Women’s Month by sharing valuable insights on:

🌱 Business ideas and financial literacy
💡 The importance of saving and creating a vision board
💪 Realizing their own abilities and strengths to create sustainable incomes
🛡️ Accessing support services for abused or r**e victims
📈 Community programs to upskill themselves for better employability

In addition to these enriching discussions, each participant received a pair of brand-new shoes from the GraySwan Charitable Trust! 👟👟
