This past Womenโs Day, we had the privilege of joining the Womenโs Day Celebration with Prรณjekt Ubuntu Community Projects in Masiphumelele township. It was a vibrant morning filled with connection, creativity, and courage, all in honour of the strength and spirit of women. Local women gathered to celebrate the joy of togetherness, while embracing the theme: โBuilding a Better, Violence-Free South Africa Together.โ
Speakers included a local councillor, as well as a representative of the Desmond Tutu Foundation. We were deeply moved by their message of hope, and by Councillor Patricia Francke, who shared an empowering message about Gender-Based Violence and how we can stand united to build a safer society. The gathering also paid tribute to a beloved community mother; an inspiring woman whose life was tragically lost to gun violence the previous week.
This was a real reminder of why we all should continue to keep raising our voices for change and equality. ๐
Each woman received a POWER-of-being-WOMAN tote bag, a butterfly-adorned cupcake treat, and a brush with paint (sponsored by Hotspots2c - Africa Select Journeys)- allowing them to express their creativity, inspired by their own resilience and transformative "butterfly" magic๐ช .
The hall was alive with bright colours, florals, bows, and butterflies as women came together to celebrate life and honour one another. There was laughter, there were tears, and above all, there was a sense of empowerment. This event reminded highlight again that women are the heartbeat of our communities, the unsung heroes who make the world a better place. Fierce, fabulous, and unstoppable - they are the moment, the magic, and the reason the world keeps turning. โจ
Our Butterfly Pad Project ๐ฆ will also highlighted during this Woman's Month - supporting women and girls who cannot afford sanitary products. Many still face challenges missing school or work each month; but this initiative aims to help restore dignity and ensure uninterrupted lives. Dozens of packs were collected, with a portion of Womenโs Month tour profits of our travel partners and handed out across Hotspots2c's network of tour routes to charities who support women in need.
