Behind the walls of the , animals pace up and down behind bars, like criminals in jail.

They try to survive far from everything that is natural to them. This is all in the name of ‘education’ and ‘CONservation.’

This Saturday, 6 June, Ban Animal Trading (BAT) will be standing opposite the zoo entrance on Upper Park Drive from 12:00 to 13:00 to say: 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡!

Please stand with us!

In preparation for the peaceful protest, we met with local authorities yesterday. It’s a routine process to ensure the protest is properly coordinated and supported by law enforcement.

Organisations are required to send one or two representative to these meetings. The sent six.

Their presence was excessive and a calculated attempt to intimidate. And in what can only be described as an attempt to render the protest ineffective, they pushed to have us relocated to an area with minimal foot traffic, away from public view.

The animals held captive in the do not speak human. They cannot protest. They cannot demand their freedom. We are their only voice and the tried to silence that voice too.

Two layers of oppression: the animals stripped of their freedom, and the humans who fight for them stripped of theirs. All behind the respectable-sounding facade of education and conservation.

It did not work.

Our permit is in place and we will be exactly where we said we would be and we will be visible, lawful, and vocal.

For every animal pacing their enclosure, 𝐖𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐔𝐏! 🐾✊

For Lammie, Mopane and Ramadiba, who have a real chance at living life as elephants in a managed wild habitat, 𝐖𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐔𝐏! 🐘🐘🐘

If their freedom matters to you, come and make your voice heard this Saturday!

STORY OF OUR GINGER CRISPY CREAM
South Africa 🇿🇦 Mpumalanga

We will never have enough words to express how thankful and grateful we are that we could save this little one’s life from what is often seen as a certain death sentence — FIP.

FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) is a serious and often fatal viral disease in cats. Without treatment, many cats sadly do not survive, especially when treatment is unaffordable or unavailable.

Crispy Cream — also lovingly called Jafar — started his journey on 4 February, not long after he was rescued by our team and came into our care.

FIP can feel like a death sentence, and without the funds or means to obtain the medication needed, these precious lives can so easily slip through your fingers.

But Crispy Cream was blessed with a very special donor who stepped in to help save his life and support him in every way possible.

After 82 days of intense treatment, he is doing incredibly well. From being completely paralyzed to now playing, jumping, and running again — his recovery has been nothing short of a miracle.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Corne from Innovavet Veterinary Clinic for walking this road with Jafar and for the compassion, care, and dedication shown throughout his journey.

Stories like Crispy’s remind us why we never give up.

KINDNESS = HOPE = CHANGE

Then, through the kindness of donors, we were able to donate two kennels.

For the first time, these dogs could experience warmth, protection, and hope.

Something as simple as a proper kennel can change an animal’s life in the township.
This is why we continue our work — because every dog deserves shelter, safety, and love.

We love the dogs of our township communities deeply, and we will continue fighting to bring change where it is needed most.

When taking this one home after sterilisation, she would not get out of the bakkie .

WE WORK TO BRING CHANGE, NOT FOR A DAY... BUT A LIFETIME !

This little boy is part of the reality we work with every single day.

Cold ground. Scrap materials. No proper shelter. No warmth. No comfort.

He has already been vaccinated and is safe for now — but winter is here, and temperatures are about to drop even more.

He urgently needs:
A proper warm hok/kennel
A collar

No@ puppy should have to grow up in conditions like this. Our mission is to bring change, one animal at a time, one community at a time.

Sometimes people only see a puppy.
We see a life that deserves dignity, warmth, safety, and love.

If anyone would like to assist with a kennel, collar, building materials shutter board or donations towards his care, please contact us.

Together we can make winter a little warmer for him.

Our work is not for a WEEKEND , but a LIFETIME

Almost 13 years ago, when we first came to the old Honfontein township, Bobby was one of the very first dogs we attended to.

The community was meeting us for the first time, and we were meeting them. None of us knew then how deeply one brave little dog would touch our hearts forever.

Bobby’s front leg was severely injured. After many long conversations with his owner, the difficult decision was made to surrender Bobby to Little Paws Big Hearts so that he could receive the urgent medical care he needed.

Due to the seriousness of the injury and the long time that had passed without treatment, Bobby’s leg had to be amputated.
For a township dog, living with only three legs is often seen as a death sentence, because survival is already so difficult. But Bobby proved everyone wrong.

Then Renaldo, who was part of our team, with his family opened their home and heart to Bobby.
THANK YOU BELINDA

For almost 12 beautiful years, Bobby lived with this incredible family, surrounded by love, safety, and care. Sadly, Bobby has left us.

We will never forget this courageous dog. Bobby left deep paw prints on our hearts and in our lives.

He reminds us why outreach work matters.
Why every rescue matters.
Why every life matters.

This is the difference compassion makes.
Not only for a moment — but for a lifetime.
Run free, precious Bobby. You were deeply loved.

This morning we received a call about a pitbull mommy in Evander Mphumalanga South Africa 🇿🇦

When we first arrived, we could not find her. Later, we went back and eventually found her lying quietly under a tree. As we came closer, we realised she had given birth on the sidewalk during the night.

Sadly, we could only find two puppies, and they did not survive.

Louis, our CEO, carefully placed her on a leash and walked up and down the streets trying to locate her owner, but unfortunately no one could be found.

Her details have been shared on community groups, but there has been no response yet.

Not having a shelter of our own, saddens us so much as she immediately formed a bond eith Louis, but at at the moment she is safely with Khulula Animal Welfare while we continue trying to find her owner or secure help for her.
Thank you Angie for your assistance.

She is gentle, exhausted, and clearly has been through so much. Please keep sharing her story. We are hoping someone recognises her or that a safe solution can be found for this mommy dog.

Greyhound puppies
Brother and Sister

These little ones urgently need a safe shelter where they can be cared for, nourished, and nursed back to health.

While we are actively working on securing funding to purchase land for a proper facility, we are currently forced to rely on a Plan B.

We cannot leave them in township conditions like this any longer.

If your heart feels moved to help, please consider donating food, calcium supplements, or bone broth powder to support their recovery and growth.

Every bit of help makes a difference.
